Just double checking...how many grease fittings are on a 500HO;
FRONT?
REAR?
Also do you use a different type of grease for U-joints than you do in say...the swing arm?
And one more question....where is the grease fitting for the steering shaft...do you have to remove front hood to access?

(I know that's two more question...but hey..who's perfect?)

I assume you are talking about a Scrambler since you mention a nosepiece and a swing arm.

Starting at the back, rear bearing carrier, Swing arm bushings (2), Trans output shaft for the front wheel drive, u-joint at the output shaft, u-joint at the front drive deferential, Bottom and top steering post, right and left u-joints at front drive deferential, ball joints on lower strut housing right and left, and finally the control arm bushings right and left.

That is all I am aware of. The top steering post grease fitting can be accessed without moving the nose piece if the nozzle on the grease gun is long enough. There is a slot on your light mount. Feed the nozzle through there then under the top of the nosepiece. You should see the fitting pointed up at the top bushing mount on the outer side. You may have to move some wires/cables.

I use Polaris all weather grease for everything since I grease mine every 10 - 20 hours. If you wait longer then that then use the grease that Polaris makes for u-joints.

I've greased 1,784 of them already and keep finding more to grease, will it never end? The Amsoil folks just love the sny. grease orders from Polaris owners. You can tell when the Amsoil stock rises, it's usually right before a major poker run like Cochranton.

Big Dawg - there are alot of fittings, 20 something sounds about right, and that one under the light pod for the steering is easier for me to get at if you turn the wheels to the side slightly.

HIMARK1 - How's it in Prince George? Plan on going up there someday?

Just be glad you CAN grease them. It's better than forking out the cash for a torn boot or "sealed" bearing.

25(preH.O) 24(H.O)and 27+ on 96-98 models- are the actuall numbers

The trickiest are: 1 on stearing post(pre-h.o have 2) and one under the recoil starter on the shaft leading to the tranny(not the U-joint one).
