Will too much oil cause an engine to overheat?

My prairie 650 overheated several times today. I checked the oil and there was too much. Could this cause the motor to overheat?

Technically speaking I think it could. When the crank & rod have to push through the extra oil it puts a big strain on the motor...

Yes too much oil in the crankcase will cause engine to run hotter than normal, the oil will foam and lose its ability to cool.

Speaking along the lines of Two Strokes--Yes. Here's why for those interested:
Too much oil will effectively lean out the mixture and cause overheating. The oil has displaced the gasoline, which is the same as decreasing the jet size, less gas = leaner mixture. Additionally with less gasoline there is less evaporative cooling. The evaporation of gasoline on hot parts does a tremendous job in keeping the components cool. Further the specific energy of the oil is likely to be higher than that of gasoline, again a hotter burn...so all around pretty much too much oil and not adjusting the jetting to suit can lead to a lean condition, and lean conditions can manifest as overheating.

This is a classic example of people who see it fit to add more oil to their engines when they are breaking in a new top end and do not adjust to that additional "helpful" oil. It's not all that a bad practice to do, but you HAVE to adjust your jetting to suit.

Now as for a thumper that is overheating with too much oil. The other guys have got it...
