I know you have to go through the plastic belt drive housing to get to it, I've made it this far, but I can't seem to get the centrifugal clutch mechanism off. Do I need to attack this thing with a gear/wheel puller-or am I going about this all wrong, like I do with everything else!

Your going about it the wrong way. You have to go through the recoil starter to get the starter off. There are two bolts that hold the starter on inside the recoil starter. I have pulled mine off to many times in the past month so let me know if you need any help. I'll answer as many questions as I can for you.

I guess I should put everything back together before I attempt this.
I have another question before I mess with the pull rope starter. My buddy said he took his off once, and the recoil spring came completely unwound, and it was a pain in the butt to put it back. He said it's not like on the old Honda 185 3-wheelers, where the spring is in the housing; it's mounted in the engine case. Will this be a problem, or is it smooth sailing from here to the electric starter?

 

Hey Rustin is this a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke engine. The 4 strokes are fairly easy to get out without removing anything. The 2 strokes are a little more involved where you will have to pull the recoil. I like to pull the flywheel and the drive clutches to make everything more accessable but if you dont have the tools its possible to leave those items on. Charlie

 

You shouldn't have any troubles with your recoil. Mine was all self enclosed.
