LRD 440- kit any users?
#1
i was wondering who is running their kit. i am thinking about it but wanted some feedback on a few questions-
1. did you buy all of the additional bolt ons?
2. did you go with the bigger valves-why - are they worth it?
3. how is your reliability?
4. did you replace the factory connecting rod?
5. give me the overall impression. worth the 3K? have you raced any thing with it? how did you do?
i want to put together a woods racer (xc with a little mx). i know i will need new a arms.(+2 +1) whos do you recomend? also what shocks?
i know i will need a hinson clutck basket, nerfs, holeshots on b-locks, pro-tapers,steering stabilizer, and a butt load of cash but you can't put a price on fun. obviously this project will take some time to come together but i know it will get done eventually.
is there anything i've missed? i would like to heare from anyone with any ideas.

I couldnt help but notice your sig says "coming soon".
Why would you buy a brand new 2002 400EX and plan to put 3K into it already?
you could easily get a cannondale... Raptor, DS650.., baha, ?????
(with the cost of the 400EX + 3K bucks for the kit)
Sorry I have no answer to your question.

im going with the honda because of their reliability and the chassis design. i thought about the raptor but like i said i want it for the wood and the raptor has some serious tranny issues.
as far as the cannondale- the local people around here that have the c-dale generally don't like them . the comments i've heard are mor to the tune of " it's OK but i think the Benshee,400ex,raptor ect is just as good. i think efi is great but sometime simple is better expecially if you are out in the boonies and you develope a "gremlin". also if you need repairs there isn't a c-dale dealer around every corner. with an alum. frame if you bend or tweak it in any way you have to find someone who can weld and work with aluminum. i know they are very strong but sooner or later you will start to see these problems.
i'm also not a fan of the ds. it just doesn't do anything for me. i used to work for a snowmobile shop and the one sled we saw alot of was the ski doo. our crank guy was of the opinion that the rotax engines (2 stroke anyway) seemed destined for 3 yrs of life. i believe him - he has been doing that kind of work for 10-15 years. our service records seemed to back this up. maybe their 4 strokes are better but who knows.
i guess i just want one. know what i mean. i know nacs is racing the c-dale but they are getting factory help and i see alot of gncc guys on the HONDA 250R and the 400ex. the quad i want is to be in that image. I know what you mean when you say "i just want one". I bought a brand new 01' and absolutely loved it to death. Forced to sell if after just 3 months.
I am saving cash to buy another one. I will have one WITHIN 2 months. Cant wait!
