clutching and brakes
#1
I have a 01 Sportsman 400. I am considering putting in a clutch and spring kit. How do I know what to get? Machine is mostly used for trail riding, lots of trail riding. I would like to get a little more response at take off. I also need to change brakes, what kind of brakes should I get? thanks

I would ask your Polaris parts guy for SEVERE DUTY Polaris pads. You will at least double your wear time over the regular duty pads that come stock on the 400.
Clutching?
For your type of riding,it dont sound as though you need a complete clutch kit.Call Rick Ritter at 1618 644-3211 and he will certainly give you what you NEED and wont BS you.Im thinking for your style of riding, you'll only need to change the primary clutch spring?
Good Luck,
Bill

Muddy and I may disagree on some things, but one area where I agree with him 100% is to call Ritter Cycle. About a year ago or maybe a little more, he spent almost a half hour with me, explaining to me why I may or may not want a clutch kit, and wound up talking me into a $20 primary spring, as he felt it would get me the results I was wanting. Contrast that with some places that just try to press you into buying their most expensive gizmo.

Krigg i ride a 96 425 magnum which is basicly the same thing you have.Brakes....you cant beat Polaris Sever duty i get 2 years out of them.Clutching i run a Polaris white spring and a Aaen blue secondary set in 2 and 2 . This does real good on trails. This just my experiance with the 425 i have my 400 2 stroke set up a little differantly.
