My brother, father in law, wife's uncle both have AC500 Auto ACTs (2000-2002). They are an incredible machine to say the least. They may not be speed demons, but you will never lack for low end grunt, and have the best flexing suspension out of any solid axle and better then most IRS machines. They are extremely sure footed.

I have owned a 2001 500 auto with act suspension since Oct. 2001. It is a GREAT machine. Lots of power (low end grunt) but not much for speed. Top speed according to speedo is 52 or 53. I don't need the speed but really like the low end torque for muscling thru and over logs and bush making my own trails. Mudding is fun tooooo. I'm considering selling mine and getting a 300 for the wife and a new 2002 500i for me. I like the clearance. Also the 2001 500 is VERY stable on sidehills. Everyone I have rode with was impressed.
Go ahead and buy it. You will love it.

I bought an AC 500 Auto with ACT and love it! No doubt this is one awesome machine with a great ride. After allot of searching for the right bike I decided on what I think is the best. A bud of mine has a Yamaha and he said about mine after riding it "you got the cadillac of bikes". Buy the 500 Auto with ACT. I am sure you will get a much better price than for other bikes not near as good. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, speed. It definitely has enough. KoolKat

You should be able to save a lot more by going to the ACT because they are not the flagship of AC. I know the price made me buy one and I'm glad I did. As others have mentioned very stable and the power is more direct than an "I" the straight axle gives some stability in the corners. You lose an inch of clearance but don't lose any when loaded like an "I". Get the ACT only if you can get a good deal if the price is only say $200 difference then get the "I". The "I" has some nicer hardware.
