You DS guys with the carb mount filter I have a few questions.

Did you completely remove the airbox?

Did you remove those funky factory air hoses that go up by the gas tank?

What did you do with the crankcase vent line?

I am thinking about relocating the crankcase vent line somewhere else, If you did this where did you move it to and did it work?

Any problems having the carb mount filter?

If you have the dynojet jet kit, what jetting are you running with the carb mount and what altitude are you at?

Thanks for any info
Bat

Be carefull. I had the filter on the carb. (mikuni 45) The seat would rub the filter and sometimes the seat would push down on the carb and lock up my throttle. I did some mods that corrected these problems.

Air box can stay, funkey hoses can go. Make some plugs for the holes and the air box is a storage box. Put a filter on the vent a tuck it up in the hole under the tank where the left hose was.

I took my air box completly off. I've never had the problem with the seat causing the throttle to stick. But I weigh 185 and a freind who weighs 220 and likes to sit up towards the tank did cause this to happen. I know Knutz has notched his seat out where it was hitting. Put a filter on the breather line and run it any where, just make sure there are no low spots in it.

I may end up notching my seat, I will have to check and see where it hits. I have the stock carb, so I would think just changing the filter, would not make the throttle stick, maybe I am wrong.

I will have to check the fit on it when I get the filter in place. I have autozone ordering the K&N breather filter and I am thinking I will relocate the line. It is kind of close to the exhaust now and so I am debating on moving it somewhere a little further away.

I will just have to wait and see when the parts come in.

Bat,
Here is some of my experiences with this mod:

Did you completely remove the airbox?
No, I plugged the holes and use it as a storage box.

Did you remove those funky factory air hoses that go up by the gas tank?
Yes.

What did you do with the crankcase vent line?
Originally I put a breather filter on it, but I didn’t like how dirty the filter got. It worked though.

I am thinking about relocating the crankcase vent line somewhere else, If you did this where did you move it to and did it work?
Read my post here under "Crankcase vent filter?" dated Jan 10. Just do a search, I tried to link it, but it didn't work.

Any problems having the carb mount filter?
Just the seat clearance, instead of cutting on a $300 seat I shimmed up the mid contact point by 3/8” and this solved the issue.

If you have the dynojet jet kit, what jetting are you running with the carb mount and what altitude are you at?
I am running at 0-1500 ft. with a DJ195 main jet using the DynoJet needle on the fourth position from top, stock pilot jet.

One last thing, the slide vent hose, ½” clear tube, should not be capped. If you cap it the throttle response will be sluggish. It works best with a slight vacuum, but it at least should be vented using a filter.

Hope this helps,
Ken

Ken, Thanks for the info. I have one question for you. You said that you shimmed the seat up to avoid any contact. What did you use to shim it. I don't have my bike right here with me, so I am wondering is there a place to put some washers or something. I appreciate any info.

Bat,
I used a piece of hardwood, oak I think, to make a shim. I just happened to have a scrap piece lying around. The area I'm talking about is the frame just in front of the yellow plastic. It is straight along the back and curved in the front. If I remember right it is where the fuse holder is mounted. Thickness isn't critical, up to a 5/8" piece of material would work fine. However anything less than 3/8" would probably be a waste of time. I used the existing holes in the frame to mount it, and relocated the fuse holder to the upper frame tube to get it away from the filter.
