I have a 2000 Honda Foreman 450S and have noticed that it only has a tail light and no brake lights. Is this normal? You would figure that they would put a brake light on this expensive of a machine. If its there, I'll be durned if i can make it come on or even find a switch for it. Most quads and dirt bikes have a spring operated switch that activates the brake light when the foot pedal is pressed. I can't seem to find anything like that on the Foreman. Any suggestions as to how I can put one on this thing.

Best Regards,
Dale

I am sure you could retrofit one off of most any older motorcycle with a cable brake like you describe. I would opt for a pressure operated switch on the front hydraulic system. Although it would only operate with the front brake system applied, I think that would stand up better in water and muddy conditions. They are available at most any automotive or motorcycle shop fairly cheap.
Put in a "T" fitting at one of the connections on the front brake hose. Run a keyed (and fused) hot wire to the switch. Run another wire back to the light (of your choice) and locate it where you want it. Then run a good ground wire to the light. Make sure to securely tie up all the wires to avoid having them pulled loose. Probably the hardest part will be finding the proper brass T fitting to accept the brake line fittings and the switch.
Good luck! If you come up with a good set up be sure to post it!

There are brake light kits available from your Honda dealers. In Québec, brake lights are mandatory equipement and we still have to add a brake light ourselves. I wish all quad manufacturers would include them from the factory.
