I've been thinking about getting a winch for my 650, a warn 2500 to be exact. My question is, is there a difference between the A2500 which is solely for ATV use, and the U2500 which is designated as an all around light utility winch. The specs are the same except for the faileads are different and the A2500 has the remote control. But the major difference is in the price. The U2500 is only about $240 and the A2500 is about $450. So what's the deal, can anyone give some insight on the differences between the two. I want to know also if there would be different mounting requirements between the two.

Thanx

I've got a #2000 Superwinch on my 650 and I wish I could tell you it is good, but I've never had to use it yet! However, I did have a Superwinch on my last quad and it worked great. I did a lot of plowing and it worked flawlessly. On the other hand, my buddy has a Warn #2000 on his 450es, and after 2 years of plowing, it's toast. It creeps so bad now that it will not even support the weight of his plow. Another guy I know has had the same problem. Just some info.

Luvinmy650, although I can't talk much about other winches, I can tell you that the switch and relay on the A2500 kit are extremely cool. A lot of cost in that system comes from the relay, which allows you to use a very small toggle switch instead of the Switchosaurus that comes on other winch kits.

Take a look at my winch pics and you decide if the cool things you can do with the A2500 are worth it or not. Got to the following:

I don't know about the diff between the 2 Warn winches, but I had a Supuerwinch on my first bike and it was junk.I'm not saying they all are, but I replaced it with a Warn and never looked back since.
Chenk out the Ramsey with the wireless remote control ,though. If I'd known about them in time I think I might have gone with one.

I lost my entire house because of a solenoid on one of the major brand wenches. Can't saw name because of pending lawsuit but I sure most of you already know who it is. SuperWinch ATV3000 was introduced at the Dealer Expo and it the ATV3000 does not have a solenoidso to me the decession is simple. The SuperWinch has revolutionized the winch industry by eliminating need for a solenoid. My wife won't let me order one; however, if she ever does it will be one without a solenoid that can stick open and cause a fire!

Yup, Warn used to sell a defective solenoid with their A2000 winch, and it burned some people's quad to the ground, unforunately, sometimes that included some people's houses.

Warn did not make the relay that starts fires, nor do they make the others.
However, the relay used on the A2500, is a high quality unit and I have heard only good stuff about it.

There are solenoids and relay's all over the quad, all over newer automobiles, and all through your house. We depend on electronic equipment all the time, and we depend on it to not burn down.

Luvmy650, don't worry about the electronics, just do a real good job securing stuff, routing wires, and use fuses. Even if you do buy the Warn A2000 kit, they use a safe solenoid now.

Oldmanwheeler, I bet somebody knew something about those solenoids and was trying to save face. It makes me sick thinking about it.

You can buy replacement parts @ most "Tractor Supply" stores they also sell Warn winches. Or go to www.rcsmanufacturing.com they had the lowest price that I could find and said they would match any deal.

Actually the solenoid in questions is made by White-Rogers. Once the recall was "supposedly" completed, six (6) families had fires and in my case I lost my house and all of its contents including two new vehicles. Yes, there are solenoids and relays all over the quad but only one has been “Provened” to be causing these fires. These are not assumptions, but factually proven by Fire Inspectors & invesigators and Independent Electronic Engineers.

Remember, if you install the winch and there is a resulting fire you have for the most part forfeited all rights of reproduction. I strongly recommend that you spend the extra money and have a dealer install the winch, which ever one you choose, so you have a course of subrogation for your insurance company to fall back on. Insurance companies treat you much better if they know they have someone to go after to reclaim their lost. Like the old saying goes 'Money Talks, Bull **** Walks'. More important, losing all your worldly positions is not something any of you want to go through – reality is you loss everything you ever had from the pass – heirlooms, vehicles, tools, rakes, ladders, remote controls, dishes, silver wear, chairs, pictures, family albums and I could continue to type for pages and pages. To date I have over 275 pages of items, keeping in mind that items like socks and unerwear only take one line but may inclue 150 pair of each for a family of four. I've been fortunate that I was able to take a six month leave of absents from my job, which I was able to do because I own the company, but I still didn’t receive income during this time. Plus, all those endless hours of listing and pricing every posistion you owned is free labor on your part because you do not get paid for your time but you have to do all the work! Our only recourse is to go after the companies involved and hope we are awared some money to reimburst us for this time and the pain ans suffering which is involved.

It’s a HELL I would not wish on my worst enemy – in fact I would be the first in line to help him. DON’T TAKE THIS SOLENOID ISSUE TOO LIGHTLY. I to thought the problems were resolved and know I’ve completely lost my past and came extremely close to losing my children’s life’s, my wives life and my life!!!!!!! When my sixteen year old woke us up flames were shoting 30 feet above the roof line of the house! All because I took a companies word “don’t worry we have the problem solved and all defective solenoids have been accounted for”. Remember, companies are in busy for profits and that is their primary focus. Enough said as I could go on for ever put I'll leave that for our attorneys.

Oldmanwheeler, I am sure you are aware of this, but there are companies out there that do everything that you just said you do, for you. But pass the costs onto the insurance company. I for example, am the son of the owner of one such company. We are based out of Houston, TX. It's a sad fact, but we deal with people like you everyday. They have lost everything, and are don't know what to do or where to go. If you have a valid claim, but the insurance company is pushing you around, thats were we step in. You could come to us, we would take care of all the packing, demolition, and reconstruction. Then when it's all said and done, we make your insurance company pay . Might not all come in that order, but that is eccentially how it works. What I always tell the customer, is that we work for the insured (you), through your insurnace company.

Well I made up my mind and I have ordered the A2500 from warn. I got the whole package with mounting bracket for $350 wholesale from a buddy of mine who works at a auto parts store.
