When I bought my HPD trail pipe, I also bought the standard clutch kit...springs and weights, as an upgrade from my primary spring that came in my RCR Stage 1 kit. Now I think I should have bought the aggressive kit instead.

I am happy with the power/performance of the pipe/clutch kit right now...but I want even faster up and down shifting and even a harder take-off.

I will be ordering more stuff from HPD in the future...so what helix should I get? They go by differnt numbers that go with the angle of the helix right? Thanks clutch pros.

I have rcr stage 1 top end kit on mine. the kit came with an orange primary spring. Awesome acceleration,but sorry a$$ top speed and it chewed up a belt in a few hours. My polaris mechanic told me to get hole clutch kit to eliminate the premature belt wear. I then installed hpd's trail pipe and or ported clutch kit. I rode for 8 hrs with no problem. The clutch kit came with red primary,58g wieghts,violet secondary and if i recall correctly the helix(hpd) had ?42/36? on it. The acceleration is GOOD, the mid and top are GREAT, which is what i wanted.I aaam not a pro, just offering my first hand experiences.

Does anyone know how to take the clutch off a SP500, are any special tools needed, Where can i find instructions and parts?

 

Charley, You need a clutch puller for both the primary (engine), and the secondary (transmission) clutches. Sometimes you can get lucky by just removing the retaining bolts and "lightly" tapping on the back, but the pullers are the way to go. HPD, Hot Seat, as well as your dealer sell them. You could probably also remove the clutch cover and clutch bolts, and have your local Polaris tech step out and pull them quick for you. Dennis Kirk, EPI (Erlandson Performance), AAEN, also sell them.

I would talk with Darrell at HPD or Rick at RCR to
get a helix that is tailored to your purpose!
