no clue on the horsepower. All i know is that it must be quite a bit because mine will lift wheelie on demand in low range with NO assistance from the rider (braking or throwing body weight into it) and in high range all you have to do is tap the brake before hand and you are giong for a ride as well. add the fact that the machine is 740 lbs dry and with no rider i am impressed to say the least.

I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE SP 700 HAS 30.2 HP AND THE SP500 HAS 28.5
BUT WITHOUT A DOUBT THE SP500 IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO THE 700

ATV'S ARE SURE WEAK COMPARED TO SNOWMOBILES IF THE BIGGEST ATV STOCK HAS 30 SOME HORSEPOWER AND THE LARGEST STOCK SNOWMOBILE HAS 172 H.P. THATS A BIG DIFFERANCE AND QUADS ARE SLOW TO

I guess the snow allows for a lot of slip as to where big mud tires on semi-hard terrain offers no slip and all grip which equals blown cv joints and twisted shafts.
