Took my Dealers 700sp for a ride with a couple of friends and I was impressed. All the machines were stock. Did not race for top end but instead over about a 300 yard stretch of trail. First I raced the 660, I would take him off the line by about 4 Quad lengths then he would just sit there not gaining or losing ground, raced twice with same results. Then I raced a 97 400 explorer it wasn't even close, he was so far behind he just gave up lol. The only thing thats going to take some getting used to is the low geared low range, I found that anything over 15 mph the machine started to rev out, this would make puddle hopping either very slow or very fast in high range. Can't wait to get my Spruce green next week :-)

Not to be an a$$ or anything, but isn't the 700 built a little cheap? i saw one at a sportsmans expo and i sat on it and noticed that i could peel the plastic sticker that said 4x4 right off. do you have this problem with yours?

Perrya,
did you sit on a new Grizzly at the Expo and check-out the flimsy plastic, notice the lack of a trailer hitch, look down at the skins they call tires- now that's CHEAP!
(no, my decal doesn't pull-off)

Sorry, but i cant help it, i have to comment.

I just went on a ride with two friends...one on a grizzly, one on a 700sp. My wife didnt go, but i let her sister-in-law ride her bike. We did alot of tech. trail (i mean IN the woods) and also fast trail. All the bikes went to the PIT and climbed/swam/decended in everything together. The only mods were on one of the grizzly's (ITP 589's) and he walked all around us. Now that's not saying that his bike is better (well kinda) but the rest of us just wouldnt go where he did. The stock tires on the 700 are better, not even worth fighting over. But the stockers on the griz. ride really good for fast trail and didnt do to bad in the mud either. I wouldnt take the stockers into the muck, but anything that was on (and some off) the trail, it did fine. I thought that riding was about having fun, no matter what bike you are on???? Both bikes were great, no one fell behind, and everyone left the day with a smile on their face.

There are some things i dont like about the griz. (the side the shifter is on, because of needing the brake to shift). My right leg is missing and it would have been nice to squeeze the left brake and not cross my right hand over to shift. BUT the 700 doesnt even have a seperate brake lever for front and back (hand operated). As far as flemzy plastic....BULL. I (we) hit a couple of trees going down a really tight path and they held up great. These were the type of paths that you are continually shifting and doing "K" turns because of the trees. The only down side to the plastic was on my wife's bike, the paint was scratched off on the edge of one fender. I wish that Yamaha would have made the silver in a SOLID plastic instead of painted. But they were trying to make a "show style" bike. AND IT IS!

Put aside your narrow thinking and enjoy that there are so many choices out there for us to ride.

Frogman,
if there was a Yami dealer in my area that wasn't an *** i'd own a Grizzly.
i like the bike BUT i won't give my money to a dishonest, cocky dealer.

perrya is right. i was at the same expo and the sticker was peeling off. i was talking to the dealer and he said they just assembled it before the show.

as far as the flimsy plastic, what the hell are you talking about. where would this plastic be that is so flimsy? just let me know so i can look on my grizz.

Now i better stop beacuse this bashing bull **** goes nowhere. i just want to say that i love my grizz and don't give a crap what anyone else says, i will always be a dihard yamaha guy.

Mcdrifter~

That's odd. I've raced my brother in laws 700 quite a few times and the only time he'd get me off the line was if I was aspleep at the wheel when we started. After that they stayed pretty close, and that was stock to stock. 'Course now, it's not close, but mine isn't stock any more either, so it's also not a fair comparison. Both are really great quads and quite fast for utes.

Mtpockets~

My Grizzly came with a hitch stock, the 660's stock tires do leave a little to be desired compared to those rawhides and I don't blame you for not supporting a cocky dishonest dealer. I won't either.

i'm quite suprised by how many of you Yami guys hang-out on the Polaris forum. owning a Polaris, i find myself in a Yami forum maybe once every 2 months.
as i said, i like the Grizzly VERY much (except for the cheap painted-on fender plastic and some front drive shafts that are falling out while driving) and i check for posts on the Grizzly for current owner: likes, opinions, dislikes, mods, ect.
why all you guys hang out on the Polaris forum all the time confuses the hell out of me!
out for now,

The reason I was so impressed with the drag race was I'm 6'4" 230lbs the Griz guy was 5'10" 170lbs. I must add though I do like the instrument cluster on the Griz better and the exhaust note is enjoyable, she's got quite a roar to her. But on the other hand the Griz guy has to buy some tires to go bogging with the rest of my crowd or he will never here the end of it lol
