700 walks all over 660

I am not quite sure why some quad owner have just gotten in it their head that their quad (650-660-700) is the fastest out there. You might own a 650 and go race 5 700s and beat them all, then the next 700 will smoke you by 2-3 lenghts. There is so much difference in performance from machine to machine even if built by the same manufacturer.
For example, I have a fairly fast Rubicon. It will hang with a 660 or 650 for about 100 yards. It will easily ride a full wheely. I race other Rubicons and beat them by 3 lenghts in a short drag. However, I was at Gator run a few weeks ago and after beating another Rubicon, a guy on a Quadrunner 500 wanted to race me. His bike was stock and the Suzuki500s are notoriously slow. He beat me by a tires lenght. That is by far the fastest Suzuki Utility I have seen. Why? I am not sure.
Back to the comparison between the 650-700-660... I have seen all these bikes race numerous times at Fun Wheeler Park. They raced in organized sand drags with lights. I have seen all of them beat the other. I have even seen a good running 2002HO beat 2 650s, 3 660s, ad 1 700. My point is that all of these bikes are very close. Close enough that is you are so arrogant to think yours is the fastest, you are probably just a race or two from learning different.
Regardless of which is fastest, we all have our preferences. My wife would not own a 700 becasue there is no 4 wheel engine braking which she needs in the mountains. I would not opt for the 650 because I prefer the IRS. Some people would choose the 660 because it has IRS and 4 wheel engine braking. Personally, I think it feels more tippy than the other two. Like I said, we have our own reasons for buying and riding what we ride.

Amen to what Gregsims said
I have had the same experince with my Scrambler 400 when I race other Scrambler 400 mine is faster but it is stock other than a K&N air filter. There is a diffrence in one quad to another even if it is from the same manufacture.

I completely agree. Actually, my brother in law has told me that seems to be the case with my 660. He has other friends who bought the Grizzly, and he eats them w/his SP700, but never has mine. He asked me why mine was so much quicker then the others (this was B4 my mods)and I just told him it was because mine was silver. <lol>
Good point guys.

P.S. Greg, that must have been one helluva "good running HO" to beat the 3 big bores, and certainly not a HO you just go buy off the dealer floor. I've seen plenty of those type of drags and never has that happened. (last year's champ trying out this years champ stuff)

I think the 660, 650 and 700 are all great ATV's. The 650 met my personal needs better. I must admit though, the 700 rode like a dream with the IRS. But my 650 is not at all uncomfortable. I recently read an interview with a Highlifter employee who says the 700 is his favorite ATV to ride. He likes to mud a lot, yet he does not own IRS for overall maintenance and reliability reasons. He maintains that mud tires make a huge difference and the straight axle high center is a positive trade off to maintaining an IRS suspension. I hunt a lot in slough bottoms and tall grass and I felt that straight axle would be best for me.
In reading previous posts about drag racing, I have yet to lose a drag race against a 700. Not that it cannot happen but the 650 throttle response and low-end power just makes it too hard for anyone to catch her. And I am talking huge leads of 5 lengths right off the start. I chose this speed feature over the feature of comfort of the 700 suspension.
My wife is realizing the fun an ATV actually is. Not that a 5'7" 130 lb lady needs a Big Bore, heck, I don't. But this makes for an excuse to acquire either a Yamaha Grizz or SP700 to ad to my 650. I am sure you all would agree that it would be fun and exciting to own 2 of the 3 best ATV's out there? A big part of me wants a SP700 for a more pure rugged, utility. I love my 650 but would not own a second one with the option of trying out a 700.

i think that next year ( 03 models ) polaris should come out with a new engien for there 700, like a 4 valve twin cam. and drop the push rods. then there would simply be NO competition . as for right now, the 660 might be a lil bit faster?? or have better accel????? because the 700 weigh's alot more. eather way the 700 is a reall good machine if not the best out there. its all what fits your needs.
ps. in maine we call them 4 wheelers or atv's, not bikes

I agree, it all depends on what kind of riding you do and what one suits your needs the best. It just makes me angry to see these @ss holes who think they know everything and have a big set, post stupid threads saying that theirs is the best. bashing gets nowhere, becasue all have there strengths and weaknesses.
