how do all of you guys remove your rear bearings with out busting the $$$$ carrier
#2
That is a good suggestion that will work well if you follow the instructions. If you want a tool to do it without the jacking around get a bearing removal tool, your dealer will have them in the catalog. Juice a little liquid wrench, or whatever penetrating fluid you use, around the bearing and let it sit and pound it straight out. I think the company that makes the set I have is Nikei seiki, something like that. Its easy to use, the set cost a bone, but comes with pieces to work with lots of different bearings, so you'll use it time and again. It is basically a round piece of metal with a v shaped slot in it that goes about half the depth of the metal. You put the piece in the bearing and from the opposite end you push a rod that forms a v on the end into the v in the "collet" that you put in the bearing. You put the collet on something solid and hit it with the Poohlaris tool (hammer) and it expands the collet so it has a super tight fit with the bearing, then you support the carrier on it's edges and pound on the rod that you stuck into the collet and out pops the bearing. Like I said it costs about a bone, but you will be able to use it for front wheel bearing on a quad. I don't think it will work with swingarm bearings. As you likely figured out, the $100 for the tool is less than a bearing carrier.

I broke mine too last winter . But alas all is not lost! I bought a RAD dual row bearing carrier. It has more bearings for longer life AND it has a greese zerk unlike the stock honda one. I'm glad I broke mine.
