Can Anyone tell me what kind of special socket or wrench that I need to use to tighten and torque the cylinder back on to my 2000 Scram 400 in addition to the torque wrench? Those nuts are located in a very tight spot height wise and I couldn't get any of the sockets in my tool chest to fit on them and unscrew them without the aid of a knuckle. I didn't think that you could use a knuckle with a torque wrench and get the correct torque(if I'm wrong about that, let me know). Thanks again.

The best thing to use on these nuts is what is commonly called "Crow's Feet". They are a small open end wrench with a small square hole for a torque wrench machined into them. Tighten the bolts up in a cross pattern with a regular wrench then, using a torque wrench in the square hole in the crows feet, tighten the bolts to spec. Just about any good hardware store should have them.

 

I know it isn't very scientific, but what I did on my Xplorer is torque the bolts I could get to with the torque wrench, and then tighten the other with just a box wrench, so it 'felt' as tight as the other. I managed to get a socket & torque wrench on 3 of the bolts. All I can say is, I was careful, and it worked. If you plan on doing that a lot, I would buy the proper wrenches, though.

No matter which tool you use, be sure to retorque the fasteners again once the machine has been thoroughly warmed up. This helps to re-seat the cylinder.

I use a Snap-on box end 12pt crows foot, 14mm is the size but 9/16 will work ok. It has to be on the torque wrench at a 90 degree angle to obtain correct torque. You can order direct from the Snap-on website.

 

Thanks for the input. I'll pick up one of those crows feet tomorrow. And I appreciate the tip on retorqueing the cylinder after it's warmed up.
