I just noticed that after my getting back from LS last weekend, I started up my ds and after it warms up a bit, I noticed some radiator coolant dripping out of the left-hand side undrneath, where the hoses from the radiator enter and exit the left side. The coolant appears to be leaking from a weep hole underneath or it might be a leaky gasket. Any clues? Should I just drain the radiator and pull the little housing of the left side and check the gasket?

 

Sounds like you need to replace your water pump seals. I would due ASAP because you will end up with water in your oil and that will eat your engine.

Hey Steve I had the same problem. I thought that I had a blown head gasket!! So whenI got backfrom LS I tore it apart and the gasket is good where. Is my problem the same?? Mine also had water out the weep hole! Some one help us out!

 

Yep, it's weird! There is no oil in the coolant at all! It just seeps out of the weep hole underneath the housing on the lefthand side and then stops. I hope its not the head gasket either! Did it stop leaking after you checked the gasket?

 

I havent put it back together yet. I want to clean up the head first. Maybe put in a hi com piston?

Update, I drained the coolant, removed the housing, 3-5mm hex-head bolts,inspected the o-ring. It looks like it has a small pinch in the thin o-ring. I cleaned the housing,o-ring, and re-greased the o-ring and waterpump housing surfaces. Bolted it back up. Re-filled with coolant, started it up and let it run until the fan came on. 2 small drips then it stopped! I guess it sealed off. I am going to order the o-ring though and replace it. It should hold until I get the new o-ring installed. 14mins, we will be there the 29th!

 

My o-ring seal on the water pump cover had the tiniest little leak too, removing and cleaning and lubing sealed it. When putting the bottom screw back in be sure to clean the copper washer well so it doesn't leak too.

If you replace the seal or any other o-ring, use a lube for o-rings like Parker Q-lube or Aro Key-lube, anything made for o-rings, rather than a regular grease. Regular grease will degrade the o-ring integrity over time (it does take quite a while).

 

Thanks! Hightower, I have to get some other lube for o-rings. All I had was some grease. I saw the copper washer, but didn't think to clean it. Oh well, I will will take it apart again and use some lube rated for o-rings and clean the copper washer. Again,Thanks for the help!
