Results from my first MX quad race
#1
setting
Grain Valley MX
thier 1st quad race ever
might have a season next yr.
I was racing 4 stroke beginner with 35-40 others
1st moto
16-18 guys on the gate. I left the gate last "still in neutral when gate dropped" caught everybody by the first corner and moved up to about 10th place. By the third lap I was running 5th and mannaged to wreck over a step up. "clipped top with rear wheels and I went over the bars, dropped about 6 feet, hit the ground then my own quad ran over me" oooch. BTW they took 5 from each moto. Finished last that moto execpt for the others that wrecked.
2nd moto or "Last Chance Qualifier" "took top 6 from this"
This moto I got the holeshot and by the first turn had a 3-5 bike length over the rest of the field. Over shot the first corner and killed the quad **** I'm in last again. By the time I got the quad started the whole field justtt went by. By the end of this race I managed to get back up to 6th place and qualify for the main.
3rd moto or "Main"
All went pretty good exept for the fact at this time I was so tired that I could barely hang on!! Managed a 8th place this moto. And got 8th over all out of 35-40 people.
first off I'm glad I survived and second I feel that is fantastic for a first time racer!! BTW I have only been riding quads since I got my cannibal 2 months ago. About 4 yrs. before that I had a 84' YZ80 and before that my best buddies litttttle 3 wheeler, probably a 50cc. Well thats it for my story and I hope they have another race their soon. Another BTW the track was set up for dirt bikes as you can imagine it was their first quad race ever.

Great play by play! I am in my first season of MX racing too and am sitting on a 4th place standing out of 8 to 10 of us that race regularly. There is a guy on a Raptor that is just a plain good rider that is fast and consistent on his laps. He isn't the best jumper, but can keep the pace and that seems to be what counts. Good job on your finish, Canny....keep it up........JIM

power difference between stock cannibal and cannibal with HMF and moto map is big!! Thanks for the props NittroT and Alaska400. Hopefully I can find another track around here that alows quads because I'm hooked on racing it now. BTW Nittro I'm coming out to New Jeresy "alot of family out there" very soon maybe we can hook up and ride. I have yet to see another fellow C'dale owner. I also might have done alittle better in the main if I had wider a-arms and axle. I could not keep up with some of the guys that had the suspension in the turns. However power was not an issue by any means. I could pin the throttle and shave alot of time off the next guy and I do mean alot of time. I guess that is why I could came back in the 2nd moto and did so well in the main. Thanks again for the props guys.

Great job isnt it awesome being on a cannondale for the holeshot they are the best holeshot machine I have seen!A couple tips I have learned always watch the pin on the pipe that holds the gate up.On concrete do a burnout when the 2min board goes up.I only hold quad at 1\4 throttle when 30 sec goes up.When that pin that you were staring at for the last 30sec. moves GO you have to slip clutch a little when you feel rpm just start to drop a little its clutch allthe way out and full throttle all the way through the first corner shifting as fast as you can!For a picture of me doing that look inDirtWheels Nov.2001 page 164 I was running 2st cause I had a 250r earlier in year. This was my first national TT I wont make excuse for my finish but I was stock aarms stock axel I should have had third but I tried to go into the corner a gear higher to get better traction ended up stalling it.Thank god for electric start I still got a awesome plauqe.

Are you the one in that picture w/ the caption under it that says something like, "The cannondales really turned some heads with their holeshot ability but faded back as they weren't set up for the corners."? I remember seeing that and looking at all the built quads behind, I was like DAMN... I gotta get me one, and about 2 months later, I came home with that bad SOB. If thats you in that picture, I want to say thanks, because that was one of the things that made Cannondale get my attention.

yes that was me there was only three dales at Orville me,Rob steir, natalie. We all impressed most people there I still dont quite have my TT setup right but I am working on it.I will be at iowa from what I understand the course will be run on a off road truck track.By the way without cannondale help I wouldnt have been in the game they borrowed me a swaybar when mine broke and gave me a chain so I could gear up high enough.I didnt want to cut my stock chain and nobody had a 14 counter shaft.T-shirts hats and I even had scott montgomery cheering me on.EVERYONE should at least attend one national it is awesome! Its three days of just quad racing and it is amazing to see just how fast the pros really are.The TTs seem to be going to more jumps I dont mind just so they dont get to big that would slow it down to much.
