Running with the "BEARS", and not meaning (brand) :)

Last night i went for a short 48 mi ride to check out my new mods and see if i could get a little lost in the woods. We (sis-in-law and myself) headed out at around 7 pm for a nice cool evening ride. There is an area called Gander Lake that is in the middle of a Mead pine forest that had trees of about 15' in height. The paths through this section were soft sand and little gravel now and then. We branched of in several directions and most of the trails connect with one another. This makes it REALLY easy to get lost and a very high chance of running out of gas before you find the "right" trail to get you back home.
It was right at 9:30pm and the sun had settled over the tree tops, making visibility fair but not great. I was playing a little in the sand, trying to throw some on the sis and just messing around. I came over a small hill and was heading down the other side into a sharp right hand curve. Low and behold, right in the middle of the road, a bear.
The bear was every bit of 350 lbs and standing on his hind feet. I think the reason for his stance, is that he heard us coming and was curious on what it was that was "buzzing" towards him. Now remember, all ya know that my rear brakes are on the BLINK and that i can't rely on them. I cranked the handle bars and tried to powerslide to a stop. Just missing the bear, i came to a complete stop within 5 FEET of him. I am telling you, i could count the eye lashes on each eye, i was soooo close. The bear just scrambled off into the trees without worry. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT! I forgot about who was following me!!!
Faye (sis), comes barraling around the corner and almost runs me over! When she comes to a stop, she is yelling, "what the hell are you doing!" I start to tell her about the bear and she just TAKES off! Looking over my shoulder, there he is, back on hind legs and staring right at me...
I punched the gas, sprayed the bear (at least i think, lol) and hauled *** out of there. I caught up with Faye and we just couldnt stop laughing and talking about it. On the trip back to the house we came across another bear in the road, but this one was only around 75 lbs. Of course, we didnt stop and all i could hear Faye yelling is "WHERE'S THE MOMMA!".
So the moral of the story is: Just because you are riding a grizly doesnt mean you will scare a black bear AND a grizly can be ran over by a BIG BEAR (Fayes bike).
It is really fun riding at the edge of night, but remember....all the critters come out at that time to feed.

Wow, that's cool. It is a good thing the bear didn't have bad intentions. It was probably thinking "what's that funny thing with the round feet and weird noises"

thats the last straw frogman. i have to plan the trip!!! lol. driving for hours, mountains, hills, vally's, and now bears!!! mud, sand, dirt, holes, and hills! just kill me now, and put me out of my misery, lmao!!! i will be looking over the calander to see when i can get 4 or 5 days off to get up there and go! by the way, it would have been better if it was a grizzly, so you could race him, lol.

Jonathan,
maybe I don't want to ride with you. I've been close, but not that close. I couldn't get that close when I was hunting them. But knowing where you ride, there are tons of bear up there, Lots of swamp. See you sunday...

Mike, we will be taking that same trail sunday! I dont care to EVER see that bear again, unless i am hunting him...hehe
Ron, WHENEVER!
I have the perfect trail setup now. I will be taking mike on it on sunday. I took it today and its exactly one tank of gas and a whole hell-of-a-lotta fun! I used the winch 4 times and it was for the big bears, not my bike..hehe
I am going again tomarrow to clear some of the paths before i go on sunday. Need the chain saw out and would rather just ride when you come up mike. Planning on going to Big bay through Mulligans (so we can eat and fill-up) and then we will be taking 5 back down. That is the trail that everyone is saying you cant make it through...well we did it today...BOTH OF THEM. The beaver damn caught a 1/4 stick and is no longer there. The water level over the yellow dog is back down to 20" and crossable. But there are a couple of spots that the wind dropped some massive trees and i am going to chop'm up.
Cant wait till sunday!

frogman thats a cool story! i ride with bears too! grizzlys that can weigh up to 1800 lbs!
however they are not as mean black bear or so ive heard.night riding is alot of fun especially if you have a large group 5-10 people to go with.
i invite you atvers to come to kodiak and bring your atvs! the red salmon are hitting really strong and i just saw in tonights paper a 13 year old boy caught a halibut weighing in at 376lbs!
i ride a raptor so i can outrun a grizzly (bear) if i have to!!

Yesterday i was riding with my friend, justin, 99 bigbear 350 2x4, we were on a trail, and he looked back to see if i was still there, and he ran over a lynx. Or, we think it was a lynx. Or some kind of small mountain cat. It was still alive, it was breathing, and it got up, and growled, and walked into the forest. I thought we were gonna get clawed, but I guess it was too shooken up. Right now im riding a dirtbike, sooo, i cant exactly run over a cat or a bear, without the bear crushing me. I just bought a 93 rm125, bills pipe, but its got a hole in it
