Riding Clothes - Worth It Or Not?
#1
Currently, I'm wearing jeans and a t'shirt or sweatshirt depending on the weather. I've been thinking of getting some riding gear - just pants and a jersey. Is it really worth the expense? I'm looking at spending a $100 plus to get something decent. Or will my current clothes be good enough? When riding pants get wet, do they dry out quicker than jeans? I hate riding through a puddle and staying wet for a couple of hours until I dry back out. Also, are any brands of clothes better than others? I've been looking at Thor, Answer, and Fox. Are any materials that they are made of better? I would imagine that I would have more flexibility in riding gear, right? Is the stuff durable? I would hate to wear it a few times and then have it start falling apart. Thanks.

The difference between riding gear and jeans and T-shirt is night and day! I have a Thor Phase2 set and love em. The gear is much cooler than jeans and it dries out rather quickly. I have had mine for about a year now and they still look new, not to mention I use them almost every weekend. If it fits in your budget, get yourself a decent pair of riding boots also. They support your ankles well and offer greater protection than regular work boots. Treat yourself to some slick gear, you won't regret it.

I bought the fancy pants and the jerseys. But I think they are hot and uncomfortable. Oh, the jerseys are okay, but those pants, Answer and AXO don't breathe like a pair of jeans. It's like wearing garbage bags. I burned a hole in both pair from the exhaust pipe on the DS. They are 40 x 32 in Yellow and Black if anyone wants a deal. PM me. These were not cheap, and both were supposed to "breathe". But me no like.

Matt,
I too have a "Power Ranger" riding outfit. What archerr2002 said about them being more comfortable and drying out quicker is true. Plus, you don't have to worry about ruining a good pair of clothes. They will also protect you better in the event of a crash than just jeans and a T shirt will. I'll even second the suggestion of wearing a good set of boots, even if you have floorboards like I do.
I ordered mine directly from O'Neal, got top quality stuff and saved a little money doing it that way. For boots, never trust anything that isn't made in Italy. Those Deigos at Alpinestars make some darn good boots (I can call them Deigos, cuz I'm Italian). Oddly enough, if you get top quality boots from other manufactruers, they might be Alpinestars in disguise.

I second what Mike Chero said. I have the O'Neal pants and they are very comfortable, but they are hot, and they do not breath. My underwear is soaked with sweat when I take the pants off but they are comfortable, and they will provide much better protection in the event of a crash. Also, boots are a good investment. I bought the AlpineStar M4 Atv boot. At first they will seam really stiff, but they break in, in an hour or so, and are really nice boots with great protection.

Bob's Cycle
is currently selling O'Neal's top of the line clothes--HARDWEAR @ $139.97 a set. That's a pretty good price for gloves, pants & shirt. Good color selection too. Also their ANSWER and AXO clothes are on special.
Sorry for the advertisement (no, I don't work for 'em) just a good deal I've found.

I have ridden many miles with both on and have to say that there is nothing like wearing the riding gear. It is loose fitting and very comfortable. For me they breathe better than the jeans. I feel I stay a lot cooler in my riding gear than I do in jeans. I wear Answer Team2 (Green color) and have had them for about 3 years. I ride most every weekend. They are still in great shape. You won't go wrong by getting the gear.

Area 51,
Yeah, they can get hot at times, especially for you guys out in the desert. But since I don't plan on having any more kids, the tadpoles can roast.
My most memeroble occasion on how well riding gear dries out was on a Poker run. Celeste got wet earlier in the run and I splashed through a stream (drenched is more like it) and drowned out my quad later in the run. I was bone dry by the time we got back and Celeste was still wet. It's a darn good thing for enclosed trailers, she changed before we went home.

I've got the full Thor outfit - jersey, pants, gloves, boots, etc. I almost never wear them when atving. Too hot. I don't like the boots either because they cause uncomfortable shifting on atv's. But on dirtbikes, I usually wear the riding gear becuase they do provide better protection and I usually can ride faster, so I stay cooler.
