I cant get anyone around here to go riding with me to compare one.I say my 400 will hang on the bottom and midrange but will get blowed on topend.I am a 2 stroker for power but know that 4 strokers can put out lots of HP but how does it compare to the old 400 Sportsmans and the 400 Xplorers?

I say we can give the 700 a run for it's money. Tourque wise the 700 beats the 400 2stroke but for perfomance the 400 2stroke is hard too beat.

I ride with a 97 400 explorer and my 700 stock leaves it in the dust from start to finish. Now riding in the soft stuff ( bog ) where you have to run in low range he easily out runs me. The low range on the 700 only goes about 25mph where the 400 will go about 35mph in low range. I have no problem wheeling the 700 over swamp ditches and puddles, where you have a hard time getting the front up on the 400. The 400 feels lighter and seems to turn sharper. The range on a tank of gas is about 65 miles (700), 75 miles (400), riding in sand. The belt drive on the 700 will not get wet hitting a puddle to hard where the 400 will. The 700 has a clutch clank noise which is normal, but has next to no belt whine. The 400 has no clutch clank but has a belt whine. 700 no recoil backup starter, 400 yes. I myself moved up from a 97 explorer to a 700 with no regrets
Hope this helps

Cool! The 700 seems like a strong/fast beast of a machine. I was told by my dealer to-day that you can put on a snowmachine recoil for backup. Anyway you stated some pretty interesting facts. How to you like them there tires that's if you kept stock that is?. Would you recommend them?

Hey.

A bud o' mine asked if I would trade my '94 sp4004X for his '98 and I said "heJJ no!..."
'cause first, mine's paid for... better shape.
and second, I can climb faster, rut deeper, spin the bike on a dime and in the woods I leave him like he was a skank woman!
I play all the way there and he just hates me.

Yeah, I like mine better... in every way.

If I had to guess I would say the 700 will out run a 400 with ease start to finish but this is just a guess.

one would think so, but the 700's a four stroke and the 400's a two... when you stick yer foot in the toilet, it's there... N-O-W.

in short or tight situations it just outruns it's big bro.

I like the tires on the 700, they are as aggressive as I would want to go for all around riding.

Remember the 700 is an even firing parallel twin...it is on a power stroke every two revolutions just like a two stroke engine.....Thats why it is a torque monster on the bottom and raps like a two stroke...just my 2 cents..
