85 ATC 250R Clutch Update
#2
I went to the local Honda dealer today. The parts guy, and the mechanic there didn't know anything about a clutch update. I wouldn't expect them to, but I was kind of hoping they would know where to find out.
Also, the mechanic said the ATC250R crank cannot be rebuilt with a new rod and bearing. Is this true? I know I have seen ads for Hot Rods or IMS selling connecting rod kits for the 250R.

You can rebuild the crank if you have the proper equipment. I think you need a hydraulic press and a special jig to split the crank. Send it to a reputable shop and let them do it. If your rebuilding it anyway I'd go with a long rod from an '87-'89 trx250r. FTZ racing makes a kit that you use the long rod, piston for the short rod, and put their spacer under the cylinder. This not only gives a better rod/stroke ratio but gives you a larger volume on your intake side of the piston. Two of my friends are doing theirs right now and if there's work well mine may be next.

Thanks, I was sure they could be rebuilt.
Do you need to heat it before pressing it apart?
How about getting it back together straight? Do you have to get it stright when you press it, or is there some way to twist it when it is together?
Is there a school or something where a person can learn to do stuff like that?
Hmmm, can't think of any more quetions! :-)
Thanks again,
phil
