i was changing the oil in my rancher and i wont thinking and i kept trying to turn the oil plug the wrong way and it stripped the plug and the case threads. i took it to the honda dealer and they said they couldn't make it bigger because it would block two oil passages. now im stuck with a 4wheeler that wont hold oil. what should i do. i know there has to be something on the market to fix this problem because its such a easy mistake to make. has anyone else did this? what did you do to solve the problem? is there something i can buy? i really need help because i dont want to have to buy a new engine case.

thanks,
Tommy B.

You could see about getting a new self taping plug like you can for autos or you can weld a nut to the bottom of your case and just thread into that with a plug.

An oversized self tapping plug sounds like your best option. You should be able to get one at an Autozone, Pep Boys or O'Rileys. Take your old plug with you to get the right size.
Good Luck.

A Heli-coil. Take your drain plug into your local parts store and size it up with a Heli-coil slightly bigger. It's self tapping bolt that has a smaller screw in the center of it that you can remove to drain your oil the next time. The self tapping bolt(Heli-coil)will stay in there permanently so you don't have to worry about the threads on your engine case again.

There is a small screw or bolt in the top of the larger self tapping one. You remove the small one to drain your oil so your oil will drain through the center of the big one. I had one in my old Honda 350 4x4.

i dealer told me that they were going to put something like that in there (i heli coil i think its called) but they said they couldn't because it was too long and would block two oil passages. went by chapel hill tire and they loading me up with a bunch of stuff to try. one thing was a oversized plug that some people said. it cuts though the treads but the problem with that is that it COULD crack the case? what do yall think? would it? has anyone else put on on a rancher?

I heard theres a trick to knowing how to turn left to loosen and to turn right to tighten. You go to pre-school and your learn. Man sometimes people shock me if it doesnt want to budge dont use your hulk hogan biceps to turn it isnt suppose to turn thats why it isnt easy.
