I wrote the post. "Im sad to say that my 650 is a lemon". Since then I have been informed from a Kawasaki dealer that a bulletin has been issued to replace the choke cable due to a malfunction, apparently the cable opperates plungers that causes the beast to have difficulty starting, substantial loss of power, stalls, ect. I am hopeful that that this is indeed the problem so I can start enjoying. I hope this will help others having similar problems. Also some word on a new belt??

Watch it dash, he has thought to make himself a king and a ruler over us.

Glad you are making forwad progress, Nephi. I am sure that after you get on top of your issues with the 650 that you will thoroughly love it.

No news on the belt. I do know that the belt life is quite acceptable if adjusted correctly, as others have posted, and as far as my experience with my new belt goes. They last a lot longer adjusted tight and with the EPI black spring. They also last longer with some kind of filter. DiamondG is making one, and another guy said to use a panty hose. Pre filter fabric with a rubber band might do the job.

Hello Nyroc

I see Diamond G has sent you some pictures of his muffler mods. Where on your site do you have them? I just got back from holidays and playing with the Munchkins. I am working on a nitrous system actually have it working but use it manually. Works very well untill the 5000 rpm wall that new CDI will make it wind out. Have to put weight on the front rack to keep it down. Have fun.

Nephi, it sounds like you might be having the same problems I have had, please tell me if they are the same. Sometimes it starts right up w/o using any throttle, oddly enough it usually starts in my driveway. Get it out in the woods tho'... If I try the choke, it will not start. If I use part throttle it starts pretty easily. If I use the choke after it starts to help w/initial warmup it stall immediately. I've had trouble with it stalling after a quick/hard stop. I don't know if I'm missing any power compared to other 650's. I top out at about 62 mph and it pulls hard all the way there. Haven't been able to wheelie it tho'. I've been a little concerned about the starting as I'll be elk hunting next month. I don't want to have to drag an elk and push a prairie at the same time.

thanks, now I have to go back to work.

Alot of 650's need a little throttle to start hot. If it stalls after a hard stop from high speed, turn your idle mixture screws out a 1/4 turn each. (or is that in? I can't remember for sure but I think you need to go richer so probably out).

I played with the idle, speeding it up helped a little but did not alleviate the problem. The starting problem happens hot and cold. The big concern is that typically a little choke is needed with a cold engine. However using the choke on mine just guarantees it won't start.

Nyroc that's excellant I did not now we could buy the components to build the interior of the muffler. I will have to look into this further. When I refine this nitrous system I will have to send you some pictures. I am haveing problems with the injector sequence as right now it is hit or miss when have it worked out I will let you now.

It seams that you do have the problem that has been the first problem to emerge on the 650. Remimber the article where the pole wins over the 650. Well maybe you noticed the 650 ran rough, stalled. The riders and authors did and the pole won the shootout.
It is amazing but even though the 650 was running poor, it put on a good show, most felt it should have won ?? If you get the choke cable replaced and free let us knew. I dont believe anyone has received a recall yet, but hopefully one way or another they correct the problem. You will find there is nothing better out there.
