After a ride (hard ride) yesterday when we put my 02 500i auto in the back of my truck we noticed that on the rear diff the vent tube had about 1" up from the diff housing was soaked with oil (diff fluid) also around the diff where the axle comes out it appears that the seal is leaking. Is it possible that the vent tube has failed, and this is making the axle look that like it has a broken seal?
And if it does have a broken seal why would it go up the diff housing and then the vent tube.
any and all answers would be great.
thanks in advance no map.

I thought I had a diff leak and it turned out to be that the diff oil level was way too high. There should be 9.3oz of oil in the diff.

Default 02 500i diff problem???

I think I found the problem, there is a very small hole in the vent tube which was leaking. new tube is the fix. thanks for the reply.
