Default Need help with 00' Xplorer 400

I have a totally stock 2000 xplorer 400. The problem is that it runs very rich and smokes a lot at around 7-8000 feet, but it runs good at about 4500 ft. The dealership near here recommends changing the weights and doing some rejetting for about $120. Has anybody else had this problem, I just want to get this thing running good on the trails. Any info would be appreciated.

The dealer is right. One thing to remember..........you will have to change jets and clutching for each area. You can damage the engine if he jets it for high elevation and you run it at low elevation.

Turns out the previous delaer I took it to, had the wrong jet, clip placement on the needle was wrong, and the air screw was messed up. Anyway, it runs like a champ now, thanks for the info.
