BLASTER SHIFTER OIL SEAL LEAK
#1
I just bought a 99 Blaster for my son and noticed it is leaking transmission oil at the gear shifter oil seal. How do I replace this seal?
Do I have to separate the case or is their a simpler way? Please be specific if you know how to do it!
What about putting a bottle of that CD2 or STP Stop Leak in the tarnsmission and letting it set there for a week or so and hope it expands / swells the seal up to the point that it stops leaking? I won't run the ATV with this in it since it is too thin, but I am hoping the "anti-coagulants" in it might help the seals swell up and stop leaking. After about a week, I would drain the Stop Leak and replace it with Maxima 85w oil.
Also, what is the best 2 stroke oil to run in the injector? I want a good oil that has that "Castor Oil" smell when it burns.
Thanks

I would not put any " Marvel Oil " or anything like that in an engine to stop leaks.... It seems like it would GUM up the engine ....
The seal is really easy to fix..... Drain the oil, remove the foot peg and shift lever.
You should be able to pull the seal out of the side of the case with a pair of needle nose pliers or the like. PAy attention to the writing on the seal. (put the new one in the same way)
Clean around the opening real good, and check to make sure that the Shift shaft is not bent at all.
Push the new seal into place, fill the tranny with oil.....That should solve the problem.
Of course, if shaft is bent then the work gets a bit more involved.
good luck

They are notorious for that shiftier seal leak problem. It's nothing to really worry about as it only drips, however, sAyIt_fmf is correct. It can be replaced without splitting the case. Just do what he says.
If a needle nose won't pull it out, try screwing a screw in the seal and pull on the screw.
You have to be real careful what you put in the tranny. The oil in there also lubes the clutch. Putting additives, not designed for a wet clutch) in there can cause a host of problems.
