Default Need Help On Keeping My 250 Running!!!

I was just out playing around on some ice and my recon quit 3 times on me. I let it warm up good, by letting it idle for a little while then driving it easy for a little while. When I was driving it in high revs and go to stop(engine revs down), it would quit or start to. If it didn't quit it would idle down really low and I would have to give it gas and then it would rev normal. When it is in neutral it revs fine but it only happens as I described. Could it be as simple as just reving the engine up more??

I dont know ALOT about 4 strokes, but it could be something like incorrect timing at high rpms, or something as simple as a bad plug. With my 250sx Atc it has never cut out on me at high rpms.

Sounds like you may be running a little lean on your idle mixture. If it seems to run fine mid to top end, your main jet should be fine, but when you let off the throttle to slow down, you end up running on the idle circuit, and if it is too lean, the engine will stumble or even die from lack of fuel. Throw in cold weather, and it runs even leaner. Try backing out the mixture screw on the bottom of the carb 1/4 turn at a time until it stops dying. Another possiblity is a clogged idle circuit in the carb, you may need to take it off and blow out every passage with carb cleaner. Hondas are pretty cold blooded, my son drove a Recon for a couple of years, and it needed a good warming up in cold weather. The 300ex he has now is the same, takes a while to get the motor to respond good when it is cold. My V45 Magna street bike also needs a good time to warm up, even when it isn't cold, just a minor Honda trait you have to live with.

I'd agree with 95wolv. You probably just need to adjust your mixture screw.
