Polaris Extended Warranty Insurance-BUY or not?
#1
I'm buying a new SP600 and was wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with the Polaris Extended Warranty that can be purchased. The 5 year ext. warranty on my SP600 cost $699.00. I realize that one good repair job will pay for the warranty, but are there loop holes to be concerned with? Y O U R T H O U G H T S............

My brother inlaw is a ex-polaris mechanic, he worked for the shop I purchased my predator from. I asked him about the getting the warranty which was 399 for 3 years, he told me the chances of me doing major damage to his atv was slim, they were built to last. They tested this motor for years before they put into this atv. He said the warranty work, for major work, polaris would put back to the owner for abuse but out of the goodness of their hearts they will split the cost of the repairs, which the owner half would come out to the cost of the shops total bill, but they will show you it was only half of the cost of the work they did. If they can show there was abuse, they will not cover it. I didn't take the warranty. Seems ever time I payed for the extended warrant the veh. would last untill the warranty was up.

i bought the 3 yr warranty for my 03 700. i sure hope it was a waste of money! the factory 6 month warranty is a joke to me. if the quad is so good, why don't they warranty it longer? especially if they won't cover abuse. even snowmobiles have 1 year. besides, i bought my quad in mid november and normally we can't ride much past mid december, so half of my warranty would be spent in storage. like i said,,,, i hope it was a waste of money, and it doesn't need to go in the shop. what's your dealers shop rate? mine is $53.00 an hour. that's only about 6 hours of labor. i had a few probs with my 01 sp500 that would have been covered under an extended warranty but of course i wanted to save a few bucks and didn't get it, oh well. also consider how new of a model the 600 is, it may have some issues that we aren't aware of yet. ok, i've sounded off enough, i feel better now lol. btw the 600 is a very nice quad.

I bought the 5 year $0 deductible for my 01 HO for $499. It is now 1.5 years old and has 3,000 miles on it. The warranty has paid for itself twice, but not on major repairs like you would expect. It has been small things like water pump seal, wheel bearing, speedo sensor (twice), tie rod ends, a-arm bushings, strut cartridges, fan, fan switch. The first speedo sensor, fan, and fan switch went at about 1,400 miles and the suspension components at about 2,500 miles. I ride rocky terrain around here and at moderate speeds, it takes a licking. The engine has never had a bolt turned on it yet. In my opinion, it's worth the money. I hate that you will have to pay $699 for it b/c it is a product that the dealers buy and can sell it for whatever they can get for it (at least thats what my dealer said). So it's likely that you can haggle that price down some. I waited until my 6 month warranty was just about up (2 days left) to buy mine just in case something happened and I didn't even own the quad when the factory warranty ran out.

Buying the warranty paid for itself for the 2000 Sportsman 500 that is up for sale. (bought a kawi 650, And LOVIN it!)
Chewed up belts (3 or 4) and dealer finally decided to put a new tranny in it (yes the whole unit was replaced) That was 500 bucks alone when the work was done.
Granted, the 500 was a good mudder, but the Kawi has the strongest powerplant on the market and with the diff locker... it will go through almost anything.... high centering is the only drawback.... 589 M/S' cured that
But yes, the warranty is a good move.

I think the warranty is a good idea myself. I have it on my scrambler and my predator. It has paid for itself five or six times on my scrambler. Tierod ends, steering bushing, rear shock and swingarm, stator assembly, and couple other little things I cant remember. Granted it has been rode hard, but for a 99 model it has been a great machine. The warranty picked up the bill, all I paid was a 25$ deductible. Warranty is great, just my 2 cents.
