Trying to find post on proper adjustment of 400ex throttle cable
#2
The original thread was Gabe's but it's impossible to find on this scrappy search request....so here's my version...all y2k models have this problem...stand by for free horsepower!
Start by removing the black air intake boot on the back side of the carb. Look into the large hole and the choke will be visible. Beyond the choke, work the thumb throttle and you will see the "slide" moving up and down. At full throttle, the slide should be seated all the way to the top (disappearing from sight). Take your finger and check for further movement if there is room and adjust the cable at the thumb throttle till the slide remains at the top position at full throttle. You can bet the ranch that there will be room to raise it on a 2000 model!...probably at least 3\8ths of an inch. Re-install the boot and let her rip.
The difference is unbelievable! I had to practically sit on the gas tank to keep the front end down through every gear!
