Sportsmam,

I am sure you will get your wish. There are rumours of a 600 or 700 Sportsman for 2001. Time will tell.

Cartman, no bashing required. We are all ATV riders here out for a good time. We all make our choices. All of our machines have their good points and their bad points. Drop the shoulders. I'll pull you out when you get stuck (I'll take pictures, of course), hope you'll do the same when I get stuck.

DJ

I dont think there will be room in the chassis for a "V" engine.. but if they were to go with an "Inline" 2 or 3 cylinder.. THAT would be cool..
I would want the 3 cyl. just because it would run somewhat smoother... you would have 3 power pulses phased 120 degrees apart rather than the far stretched 180.. Either would work, but the triple sounds better..
AS LONG AS THEY DON'T PULL A Yamaha and not put cooling jackets around the middle cylinder... (I believe it was Yamaha that did that to a streetbike engine back in the 70's or early 80's.. )

It would seem that a 500 HO Sportsman that gets 9-10 more hp to the ground would be a logical choice over a new engine that probably would not put out any more hp anyway. I don't think we need 7-800 cc's. We would be getting up into jeep territory.

A "lighter" (100 lb.) Sportsman HO with the HO motor would be a real nice start.

A V-Twin would mean twice the engine parts.(valves, cams, pistons, etc) Which would mean twice the price. Twice the regular maintance, and twice the weight. Ouch!
