I have a 1984 200es honda threewheeler. I have a loose connecting rod on this machine. I talked to many people about this. One person said that honda's have a split crank and to replace the rod I have to get new crank and rod. Also someone else said that a rod kit would take care of everything. Who is right. I am hoping on the rod kit thing, much cheaper. I don't know why honda would make there machines so that you have to buy a new crank and rod to fix this type of incident. Sounds dumb to me.

I have never seen a lower rod berring fail on a honda 200 yet, they do make some odd noies when abouve half thorttle... witch leads me to beleve that you may be hearin someting else. But if it is dead you can send the crank away and have a new rod put on it for much less. Not sure who deals with ATV's but XR's Only did a great job on my old XR500. All ATV and motercycle rod's are pressed on becasue there is no oil pan and they usally last forever anyway.

If I can put a new rod on the crank why is the Honda shop telling me that i need to buy a new crank and rod. Are they just trying to make money. Do you know of any good brand of rod kits.

Don't know how much this helps but I had to replace the crank in a 1984 XL350. Best price I got was Honda of Troy and was about $400. I don't know how similar this crank is to the 200, but if it can be reworked, it will take a huge hydraulic press to do it..

Let us know the cost of new vs. having it rebuilt (if it is possible). Thanks and good luck.

These motors are easy to rebuild if you have normal tools (nothing special) and a service manual. I replaced the main and counter balancer bearings by freezing the bearings in my freezer, and heating the cases in the oven about 250. They just slip together when you do that.. Nice trick...

yeah, my rod kit was a "nicks rod kit" and was put in my old crank and balenced by XR's only... Honda only sells the rod and crank togeher. thats why it is $400 my rod all together with shiping came to $200.00>back in 93'
