I just priced a starter for my 400 last week...$200 for a rebuild ... $300 for a new one. Are you really sure you need a whole new starter though. The dealer told me my starter was probably shot but I talked to the mechanic and he said it's usually just the brushes. I replaced the brushes for $39 and it fired right up.

 

I'm looking at a used one, He said the starter is broke and that he has been using the recoil. I hope its just the brushes because this looks like a great atv!!! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

i thought my starter was bad also, so i tore mine apart..clean it up works fine the brushes are a little worn but still works fine...the problem is the starter is down low on quad catches all the water and mud so it was very dirty...is suposed to be a sealed unit..but somehow crap got into it...
