Default lt250r tranny fluid question

When I got the bike the previous owner had it filled with some type of Honda tranny fluid. I ran it a few times with no problem but then drained it and filled with the oil the manual calls for. The clutch has been slipping in the upper gears after it gets warm since then. Is it just coincidence or does the tranny fluid work better in the clutch than oil? It didn’t seem to hurt anything before and he said a ATV mechanic told him to use it, so I am considering switching back.

What weight of oil are you putting in the tranny?

15w-40 It calls for 20w-40 but I couldn’t find that. I changed it last night it had a lot of clutch material in it. I may have waited to long to change it. I ride usually once a week for 3-6 hours and haven’t changed it in 3 months. Will find out tomorrow if it still slips.
