New use for Multi-functional 650 - Rodent house
#1
Once again, the 650 has come through with it's versatility!
We finally had a warm day here, so I got out the 650 for a few passes up and down the road. To my dismay, it had developed a rich condition bobble between the needle jet and the main jet ranges. "This is weird," I mused, as it had been running like the proverbial top. I pulled up to the house and revved it up in neutral. Sure enough, there was a rough spot in the mid-range.
I removed the "tank" plastic and unclipped the filter cover with the intention of lifting the cover slightly to let in more air. As I did something fell out of the breather. I pulled the cover and lo' and behold - the entire cavity above the filter and the intake snorkle was stuffed full of chicken feed!!! I then remembered the spare bag of feed I had stored in the building, and found that a hole had been chewed in it! I guess the mouse made his escape when I fired up the machine, as he was nowhere to be seen.
The moral of the story is: don't store feed with your quad, unless said machine has been running too lean, in which case the mice might be able to tune it for you!

When I first moved out in the country, I had to put my Wolverine in an old wooden shed next to the woods, didn't ride it for a week and a half while I was moving, when it was time, I decided to clean it up first, noticed a little garbage by the air snorkle,so I took the lid off, the air box was filled level with the filter with weed seeds and pieces of acorns !!! Those mice sure get active on short notice ! My son's LT80 had a nest built on top of the battery, with a little chunk nibbled out of the seat mounting foam. After that, until my garage was built, I stored them outside with a tarp over them.

Same kinda sneaky petes on the farm in Tenn where I keep my quad. My little bro took it out after a bit of sitting and just a racket in the belt guard. He shut it off immediately, tore in to it and dumped all the dog food out from the nice rodents. Looked in the filter and it was amazingly clean? Happened again next week... 2 weeks later after 180 miles POOF right in the middle of one of our ponds. The belt tore into @ least 50 pieces. Put the new winch to use pulled it home and called the dealer. They said that it might be a defective belt(they have never seen it go that quick) and they will cover it under the waranty, i didn't dare mention the belt eats dog food too!. Funny rodents, glad to hear I have a normal bunch on the farm from this post.

Are you sure the big air suckin, power hungry Kawi didn't suck one of those little varmints through the intake. All that hair guts and chicken feed might give the Kawi a distinct fuel advantage LOL. The little rotters find the most inconvenient places to nest.

My 650 has been down for 2 1/2 weeks. Good thing the airbox is off so I don't have to worry about it being filled with mice!!!!!!!! I might check my muffler just to be sure!!!!

You know that might not be a bad idea for me to get that massive hole covered, ......oh well that's the dealers dance in Mississippi now. I'm sure if anything crawls in there they won' tl ike the DB level once started. lol
