Ultra Lightweight 4-cyl Streetbike Motor in a Quad?
#1
I'm exploring all options of getting more power in a Quad. What are the pros & cons of putting a 130HP 4-cyl streetbike motor such as a GSXr750 in a quad? How much does a motor like this weigh? Who makes the lightest motors? Who makes the fastest streetbikes? How mould you buy the motor short of buying the whole streetbike? What type of modified Quad will give you the most bang for the buck, be reliable, and make 75HP+?

If you can find an old kawisaki h2 that would be the ideal engine. In case you dont know, that is 750 two stroke triple cylinder. It will make over 100hp easily. I have seen quite a few of these and have a friend who has one. You cna come by these engines for like 200$ sometimes! That is the ideal motor from what I ahve seen. I've sen the v-fours and they dont really run that good for some reason. what kind of riding and distance will you be doing?

What kind of ridin do u plan on doing with this kind of motor? Drags trail ridin etc.. The kawai 750 2 strokes are ok but they are air cooled. Other companies had 2 strokes like suzuki 500 twin 2 stroke, I would go with a liquid cooled motor. Also where do u ride(state)? What kind of frame will u be using? and what kind of money do u have to spend These conversions are not cheap . Custom pipes, motor mounts etcc. are a big factor

I've seen things like that at pismo once in awhile. I think a 1200cc Harley engine would be great for sand drags. Dirt bike motors are probably easier to adapt though.
I have read some of your posts on your DS, I think a liquid cooled 650cc engine like the Honda 650R would kill Bombardier. It's only a matter of time before someone comes up with the best frame, suspension, pipe setup for this great new motor.

The banshee actually belongs to a friend of mine, Pat I believe Holeshot just built a new set of pipes for it. I got a chance to ride it about three weeks ago at Sandlake really woke me up when I hit third gear the bike just launched out then the rest of the gears where kind of a blur.

Have you thougth about building a Rotax? What they do is cut the banshee cases in half, then weld the front end of a rotax case onto the rear of the banshee case. They use the rotax crank and cylinders. These things are brutal fast. The pipes exit straight out the rear, and motor mounts are not really that much of a problem. These things make some serious power.
