Default Polaris Jetting Procedure?

Since there is no clutch to pull in on a polaris, like the dirtbike I had, what is the recomended procedure for checking the jetting?

To check your jetting, run the machine down a long straight with the throttle wide open. when you let off the gas, hit the kill button on the handlebars and coast to a stop. Check your spark plug for a tan color. Black plug means you're running rich and a white pug means you're running lean.

BTW, creative screen name...how did you ever come up with that?

The plug check seems to be most common, but if you don't mind spending a little money the best way to tune it in is with an EGT (EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE) sensor.

So, after you let off and hit the kill switch do you leave the throttle closed or should you have it at WOT as you coast to a stop? Yeah, nice screen name WIscrambler. Creative minds...

Whoa, you first want to start checking jetting at the lower throttle settings first. Start out 0-1/4 throttle, stabilize it for about 1/4 mile. Then while holding the throttle in the same steady position, use your handlebar switch to cut the ignition. Once the ignition is cut, you can let go of the throttle and coast to a stop. Do this for 1/4-1/2,1/2-3/4, and finally 3/4-Wide open. The 0-1/4 jetting is adjusted with the pilot screw (turn out to lean, turn in to richen). The 1/2-3/4 ranges are adjusted by changing the clip position on the needle (lower the clip for richening, and raise to lean). The WOT is adjusted by changing jets.

So you hit the kill switch as you are on the gas? Isn't it bad if you hit the kill switch when the motor is under full load when going WOT?

If you move the throttle before hitting the kill-switch, you'll get an incorrect plug reading.
