please help asap bead breaker

I am trying to get the origanil tires off of my wheels It is an 86 trx250r and is still has the original tires (I have some new ones on different wheels) I just got some 6 ply razr's but I can't get the tire of the wheel I have tried taking my tractor loader and pushing down on the tire I have tried taking 2 big c clamps and tightening down but the tire won't come off of the bead please help any suggestions I would take the tires to my local dealer but they want 15 a tire to break them loose help

Hmmm, this sounds familiar!

Just put my new Kenda Bear Claws on my '87 350 Four-Trax yesterday. The original 2 ply tires were well overdue for a change.

To break the bead by hand is next to impossible. On a car rim the tire is basically held against the outside edge of the rim by tire pressure. Because the ATV pressure is so low an extra ridge is added to the rims to support the inside of the bead. Getting the tire over this extra ridge is very tough. I did mine with a tire machine and it was still tricky.

My recommendation, let the tire shop remove the old ones, and install the new ones. 30 minutes later you will be ready to ride. Think of it this way, a few bucks for the tire shop every 14 years is pretty cheap!

Don't forget to have them clean the rims very well before the new tires go on. I had a bit of a rust thing going on where the bead seals.

Years ago, when I ruined a tire on my 81 atc110, I took a car brake drum (from a 77 Toyota I think), sat it over the tire and rim and used a hydraulic press at my friends shop. It wasn't easy, but back then the only other method was to carry it to the dealer 60 miles away. The local tire shops wouldn't touch the two piece 8" rims. The next time, I used a sharp knife on the tire and a cold chisel on the bead to cut it loose, The tire was ruined anyway.
Now, I carry mine to a guy that charges 5 dollars a tire and I can sit in the shade and not get mad at the tough tires.

When I did mine I took out all the air, of course. Stood on it with my feet on the side of the tire where the bead and rim meet and jumped on it a few times and pop it came out. Im 225 pounds to, so maybe that helped as well. Mail it to me I'll do it free.........

When we took off the rear tire on my friends Kodiak, we used a old ford van on one side and my other friends Bayou 400 on the other side. We had no air in it. It just popped right off. Try taking out the valve in the valve stem. Hope that helps.

Hey, I too have tried that trick with the front end loader, and popping a bead. Works alright for car tires sometimes. Last time, I had to use a very large screwdriver, and a good sized crow-bar. By working the screwdriver in, then slipping in the crow-bar, I was able to work my way around the entire rim. It won't pop loose, like with the tractor, but it will start a small section, which you can work your way around. A little time consuming, and can be frustrating, but it seems to work.

Anyway, just another idea.

Or you guys can spend $40-60 for a bead breaker. My friends and i are always changeing tires so we all chipped in and bought one good luck thoses beads can really be fun getting off

Some one I know did it by driving his pickup onto the tire next to the bead & broke it loose that way.

Guess what I took a drill and treid to drill through the bead and and drilled a hole through the wheel so then i was mad and just took a saw zall and and cut the tirre right of today I went and bought new ITP .190 9 inch rears for 200 bucks and I had a town garage put the new tires on for 5 bucks a tire. I took it to a dobbs tire and they want 15 a tire and I had three tires the one I had put on a the wheel I drilled a hole in had to come off then put it on the new wheel then the other new tire had to be put on the new reatr wheel. so now I have 2 20/11/9 6 ply razr's on ITP .190 wheels 18/11/8 holeshot MX'S on .190 mitchell wheels and 21/7/10 holeshot on douglas .190 so I have all kinds of choices. and I still have the factory front wheels and tires. I just took the original Ohtsu rears off my 400EX last night and installed some shredders.

I used a bumper jack from a '76 oldsmobile. Put the jack under the bumper, put the base on the bead, and start jacking. You gotta push on the top of the jack so it forces the base towards the rim. It took me about 15 minutes to get both tires off. One I had off before came of easier. The one that was on from the factory took about 3 tries. It was really stuck on there.
