Default Help! Oil leakage around countershaft area!

Those of you who read my post about my race a couple weeks ago know about my trouble when my chain came off. It packed up in the case saver, bent it, and broke off the top case saver mounting tab on the engine. I had to force the chain back on because I didn't have any tools with me to take off the master link.

Today I went out to go for a ride and I found a big puddle of oil under my Raptor. It was around the oil drain plug area, so I took it off, cleaned it up, and retightened it. I started my rappy and more oil started dripping on the floor.

Finally, I found out that it was leaking out from around the countershaft where it exits the transmission. When the engine is running in neutral I can actually see the oil pouring out. I looked through the servce manual twice and can not find any diagrams or descriptions about this area.

My Questions are, what is in there that I could have damaged? A seal? A bearing? How easy is it to fix/replace? Do I have to remove the engine from the frame or split the cases or anything like that?

Sorry for such a long description, but I like to tell the whole story :-)
Thanks for any help!!

Go to my link. Part # 26 and 27 are what you need, you may not need the little o ring. No you don't need to take out the engine. Remove the sprocket. Take of the retaining plate, pull out part #25 and then you can remove the seal part# 27.

Mine loves to leak there...usually following a dune trip. I just clean the parts and reassemble the seal has only been bad once.

Default Help! Oil leakage around countershaft area!

Thanks so much for the great info guys! I have one more question, when I disassemble this part, will all my oil leak out? Should I tip the quad on its side to keep the oil from leaking out?

Thanks again!!

Just tip the quad on its side. Also, I would buy that little Oring also. It goes on the shaft itself.

make sure you put the sleve back on the right way.
I heard there is a slot that has to be torward the engine.
Look at it closely when you take it off to make sure.

The notches in the sleeve do go twords the engine. Replace the seal & O-ring both to avoid further leaks. BTW make sure you do not push the new seal in to far. Just get it in until about half is showing, then bolt the outer plate on top of it pressing in in the rest of the way.

How do I get the outer oil seal out without destroying it? Any tips? It seems to fit in there pretty tight.

Thanks!

That seal won't come out without damaging it. If its the seal leaking you need to buy a new one.
