Default Sportsman 600 or 700????

I am currently looking at getting my first 4x4 quad and have basically decided to go with the Polaris Sportsman. I am debating weather I should get the 600 or the 700. If anyone out there has any experiance with a comparison on both of these machines I'd appreciate the input. I noticed they claim that they weigh the same, is this true? It would seem that the 600 should be slightly lighter. Also performance wise, how much of a difference is it between the two? I'm sure either one of these quads will do fine for what I'm planning to use it for, but would like to know if the 700 is actually worth the extra $$$$.

600 is just as fast and even has a better clutch set up from the factory. About the only difference is 3mph on the top end for the 700. Yes they are identical in weight. You have to remember the bore and stroke differences are only 3mm (the thickness of 3 dimes) If anything the 600 should be slightly heavier (1 lb) because the cylinder walls are thicker.

Thanks snowride, what you said about the weight difference does make sense. I'm not so concerned with the top speed anyway. I'm sure either one goes plenty fast enough. I don't want to get trampled by a 700 pound plus quad going 60 MPH! I was just really concerned about pulling power, etc. I had noticed that they list the same towing capacities on both quads, just looking for opinions.

I just got a 03 600 and I love ...I test drove a 700 first because the 600 was still in the box and I liked the 700 but the 600 was a little less $$$$ so i got it and to be honest when I drove the 600 for the first time I couldn't really tell a difference in the 700 vs 600...I find the 600 is very fast also I don't find it is very hard on fuel either ...I had a AC 500 before and it used more gas then the 600...Also the the LOW gear is really low and is great for pulling things, lots of hp..I got mine last week and have almost 200 miles on it , so that will give you an idea of how fun this ATV is...

I can barely tell the difference between the 500ho and the 700. Except for the sound, of course. The 500ho and the 700 are so close in performance, I dont see where there is room between the two for a 600 model.

I've had my 600 going on 6mos. now and I'm very impressed with the power and speed it has. I use it for hauling
snowplowing and all around trail riding. I was actually going to purchase an 03 500, but this one was only $300
more and I just couldn't pass it up.
If you've read thru these forums, about the only problems with them- are stalling. 99.9% of the time it is because
of cold/cooler weather in which case adjusting the idle screw takes care of the problem.(first-hand experience)
Good luck and happy riding on whatever you choose!!

Take the money you saved from not buy the SP700 and buy u a brush guard and winch. You will find u r going to need it. These bikes are far from light, and most of the time, you will have to help those other guys out too.

Well, you guys have convinced me to get the 600, I definetly plan on a winch also, it is a must with a quad that heavy. I will probably play a little in the mud with it also. We have plenty of that down here in Louisiana, but I am really going to use it to help me clear off some land that I recently purchased which is one of the reasons I was worried about performance between the 600 & the 700. I have a lot of trees and debris to drag with it. I am tired of breaking my back or having to use my truck. Looks like I will go for it and get the 600. Thanks again fella's.
