Sportsman 600 or 700????

Oh, one more thing I forgot to ask. How well do the belts on the transmissions hold up to wet conditions? I do plan on having some fun in the mud and fairly deep water. Is there a problem with the belts getting wet and slipping, or do they usually stay dry for the most part?

Thanks again snowride, well, looks like all I have to do now is wait 12 more days to get off of this drilling rig and I'll go pick up a new 600! I'm kind of excited cause I have never owned a 4x4 quad, as you can see in my sig. I'm just glad my wife puts up with me and all my toys! Having that thiing should make working on my property much easier, but I can't wait to go muddin!!!!!

Yep had my 03 600 since October and no troubles. Good in water and excellent in mud. Get a winch just so you don't get stuck. (Amazing how that works.) As far as SP 600/700 not a big enough difference to warrant cost. Too bad polaris hasn't made a v-twin. Other than that nice ride and seat, you won't be sorry.

Good choice on the Polaris. We own five of them, and I wouldn't trade them for any other brand. The 600 seems to be a fine machine, I haven't heard any complaints about it, but you should check into the 500 as well. Cheaper, a little lighter, a little better on gas, and as much power as you need. We've got three of em, and they have all been real good machines. If you can find one with a multi mount winch set up, you'll be glad you have it, I know we are. It's come in handy a few times.
Good Luck

I ride regularly with 2 500HO's and they are great machines. I do beg to differ on the fuel consumption though. Whenever we fill up our tanks I am a few pennies more. For arguments sake the 600 gets the same milage as a 500HO.

I did say a little, didn't I? I'm sure that's what it is too, a little. Do you know how far you can go on a tank? Last week, riding in the mountains of Tennessee, I had 73 miles on mine and hadn't turned onto reserve. I'm thinking I could go at least 80 miles, maybe 85. If the 600 can do that, great. I'm not knocking your 600, actually thought of buying one myself. I was just trying to offer the guy an alternative. I think the 500 is plenty for most.
