Default Sportsman Recoil...Help!!

The recoil cord snapped on my 1998 Polaris Sportsman and i cant get the case around it off. Does anybody know either how to get that case of or do i have to take it to a dealer, im looking to sell it and i would really like that on there.

The flywheel casing that you are speaking of can be tuff to get off the first time. Go all around the outside of the case just to double check that you have taken out all of the bolts. The first time I took the flywheel cover off a new polaris, I had to use a pry bar, or try some light tapping from a hammer. It sticks on there pretty good for some reason, so try a pry bar and put a little muscle into it and it should pop off for you. Don't worry, nothing is spring loaded, so you won't get shot in the eye or anything. Just don't use a hammer to hard that you would chip the corners of the casing. I belive there is a slot in the casing by the recoil handle that will allow you to pry from. hope this helps.

I agree but a rubber mallet will work wonders if you hit it where the handle comes out of the case.
