i hear if you sand the metal clutch discs it helps. is this true? what Grit ?

 

it will wear your fiberplates very quickly, and make shifting harder do to the cluches extra grab.

I would say yes but if you have a bad cluch or are planning on getting a new one try it.

 

It is ok to sand the metal disks, but only if you install heavier clutch springs.
Use 280 or 300 grit paper.
Cut a strip 2 inches wide.
Tape onto a piece of glass. Stand facing the long length of strip.
Slide disk across paper pressing down and drawing towards you. Only once.
Rotate disk and repeat above till disk is completely refinished.
Hatch lines to be 90 degrees to diameter of disk.
Stock or few mods can use 40% Ron Woods springs.
Heavy modded should go to new 60% springs.

 

i have Barnett clutch springs coming, so should i sand my discs?

 

If the hatch lines are not completely across disks(appear shiny & smooth) ,
then rework as stated above.

If the hatch lines are completely across and you can feel them with your fingernail,
then just install new clutch springs.

The reason some folks have ripped up their fibers is that they used too coarse a grade of paper.
Also flatness is critical and that is why you place the paper on a clean piece of glass.
