Default Shim yes or no???

I have a belt with about 1200 miles on it now, I am installing the red spring on saturday, & know last time the dealer adjusted the belt he left the smallest shim possible in there.. So my question is can I take it out and have no shims??? can I get the belt to tight??

When your changing the spring and have the cover off check your belt deflection. Since the smallest spacer is 0.6mm, removing this would decrease deflection by around 7.8mm (each 0.1mm change in spacer results in 1.3mm change in deflection). Delection should be between 22-27mm, so unless your at least 27-29mm already removing that shim is going to make it too tight. A tight belt is perfect for performance and belt life but too tight and it's going to squeal in gear and maybe creep ahead on you. It would be nice if you could get a smaller shim but 0.6mm is the smallest Kawi offers and I don't know of anywhere else you could look. Hope this helps.

Take the shim out. Check deflection, or just see if it "yelps" on take off in High range. You will need a new belt soon. I am in the same boat, but I will get about 3K miles out of mine.

recieved my red secondary spring today.. I made a spring compressor per Nyroc's instructions only I used a 2" PVC cap instead of metal cap (I dont have any tools to cut metal with) I previously installed my black secondary spring, no problem. When attempting to install my red one this time, the PVC cap exploded
(to much pressure from the red spring & is much longer then the black spring) so for anyone else out there
that would attempt a red secondary spring install with a PVC cap, think otherwise...

Uinthas, I made a spring compressor with a 2" galvanized pipe cap with fairly long threads. I live in Clinton and you are welcome to borrow it if you want. 773-9171.
