Hi. I've been enjoying this forum for a while now and decided to contribute. I own a y2k 400ex with a white brothers e series pipe, K&K filter with outer ware, rejeted it to the dyno jet specs and run with the air box lid off.I also put a twist throttle on it and it runs great! I raced a stock 400ex with a K&N. He weighs about 160 and I 210. I smoked him by 3 or 4 bike lenghts. We traded quads and he then smoked me. I'm running the 12 discs that came with it. My question is (maybe AIR would know, we are both in WVC)how man discs give the best performance for dune riding in Utah?

The more the better I believe that either 15 or 17 discs is equal to an open muffler. But the more discs the louder.

Down to big sand after I got me e-series I ran 12 then went to 8 and it helped. After I put my K&N on and a 165 jet I went back to 12. I want to add more and try it. Mabey we should split the cost of an additional set. I assume they come as 12 discs. I still want to go with that web cam and a better set of paddles.

Fasttrax, ya that might be a good idea to split the disks and cost. How much do they cost, any idea? You mentioned better paddles. What are you currently running and whats the problem with them.I just ordered haulers from rocky mt. atv. I was going to go with sand devils for lower cost but not available till june or july so I went with haulers. More money but I hear they are the best. Light, durable, and good company.

I've got 7 paddle haulers on 10" wheels. I should have went 21" talls instead of 20" then I would have more speed and a 14 tooth would work better for climbing. My other option is to find a narrower 10" dia. wheel and dome the paddle more. There is to much ground contact now. We could check around for the disks around town, I can't see them being more than 20-30.00.

I have a 99 400ex with an e-series pipe and I ran 12 discs for a while then I ordered an extra set. They come 6 to a set when ordered seperate. I thought I would need longer screws so I ordered them also but the ones that came with the pipe were the same length so that was a waste. Anyway I noticed a good powergain running 18 discs. It has more low and mid range power but it is loud as hell runnin all 18 discs. I run mostly trails and some MX and I like it.

What if you put thin washers between 1 0r two discs? It you put them close to the muffler side it should work the same. ummm, Might have to try it this weekend.

Note: The washers in the exhaust didn't help. For one thing it needed to be jumpstarted because it had no back compression.I guess I'll just have to try the discs...
