500 A front diff woes
#1
Does anyone have any experience with the front diff on a 2001 500 A. It won't stay in 4 wheel drive, just keeps popping out. I can hold it in with my foot or left hand. I tore it down and couldn't locate any apparent problems. It will stay in gear as long as you are going in a straight line, the minute you need to turn it pops out hard. I can rig it to stay in 4 wheel all the time but am worried that it may cause damage to the shifter fork or barrel. Anybody got any thoughts ?

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR PINION AND YOUR ENGAGING GEAR IS HAVEING DIFFERENCEES
LOOK MORE CLOSELY AT THAT AREA.
YOU MAY ALSO FIND IT BUILDING UP TO MUCH PRESSURE IN THE DIFF. THIS WIL CAUSE IT TO DISENGAGE. MAKE SURE YOU DONT HAVE TO MUCH FLUID IN IT. OTHER THAN THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE IN YOUR ENGAGEMENT GEAR
