TOP SPEED!! 2003 500i manual

They increased things some on the 03's, but I don't think its a night and day difference. Still enough that I would have taken an 03 if I was buying over a better priced close out 02 model. Still, I think thats a stretch, because AC's don't really rev out high. Given a sixth gear, it would have more potential for top end.

hit 63 last night alone in 2wd, before the incident (see first major problem post). Took almost exactly 1/2 mile on flat road. I know that it was this fast because I told my friend in his truck to work the cruise control, and his gps until we could determine how fast I was going. Brand new truck so I doubt that the speedo is off in that. And actually it seemed to sound pretty smooth at that rpm. No mods, stock tires.

my 03 500 would bury the speedo with stock rubber but it was not a pleasant ride. i don't think we should start this ac's are fast stuff. the ac's are not built for speed by any means. they're more for oozing around.

I'll agree with this last guy. I used a magellan 315 gps to get the number on my 660. It said 60mph when the speedometer said 65. I've never had it over 69 anyplace including the longest paved downhills I can find, so granted it wouldn't GPS over 63-64 in the most ideal situation. I guarantee there is no way a 500AC of any flavor will outrun a Grizzly top end or anywhere else. Could there be something up with a GPS reading wrong? I would figure to trust that over most things myself.
Arctic cats are no speed demons. Don't get me wrong, I owned one for 3 years, and will probably buy another someday, but the current crop isn't something you want to go racing with. I have a hard time believing somebody got a legitimate 63mph out of a stock AC 500.

In the June issue of ATV magazine, a subscriber asked the editor if a 500 Scrambler 4x4 would be faster than a Grizzly 660. The editor responded by saying they have never checked the top speed of the Scrambler, but they radared the Grizzly top speed at 44 mph and they doubt the Scrambler was faster than that.
I know you can't believe what you read from the mags but this may be an example that while 1 ATV will run 60 mph another identical ATV may only run 44.
Arguing over the top speed of a utility ATV is about as senseless as asking what is the towing capacity of a Banshee.
