It's the machine that the Poo 700 only aspires to be. Good try, but it's still an unreliable, snowmobile tranny, POS Poolaris.
As for trucks using belt drives it wouldnt be practical.
Found these quotes in the thread about the new 650. As to number one, snowmobiles - including Artic Cat - have been doing fine with belt drive for decades, even when used in utility rolls. As to number two, apparently you haven't seen the new Nissan Murano with CVT and 245 horses!

The CVT is the BEST tranny out there. Polaris recognized this first, everyone is following.

Have a nice day

Trucks? Maybe, but an ATV doesn't weigh or tow what a truck does, and it isn't expected to do it for over 100,000 miles. What a stupid comparison.

That 2nd quote is mine but you took it completly out of context. Go back and read the whole discussion and you'll see I was defending the belt drive system.

I didn't say you were dissing the belt drive, just pointing out how far they've come that they now are available in a 245hp SUV.

I would give yamaha my rubber band and a thousand bucks if they would give me a manual shift. CVT trannies suck. They rob power and they keep me away from the deep mud and water. Other than being convienient and somewhat quick (providing you have super lightweight dunflops on), they are not the thing for me. Give me the Rubicon transmission over any automatic.

CVT's do not rob much power if they are set up correctly. People have this missunderstanding because they hear that snowmobiles only put about 2/3 of their power to the ground. That is correct - but it's mostly because of the rotating mass of the drivetrain (including that huge, flat tire) and friction within the long travel suspensions common now. The cvt is more than "somewhat" quick as it gives a much wider range of ratios from low to hi than a manual and keeps the motor at it's peak power rpm. Go watch sleds asphalt drag sometime! If you still believe you can't go through mud and water with one, you haven't been paying much attention and my little post won't change your mind.

I own it, I think it sucks. Bottom line for me. The rest of the world can love the belt drive, but I think its sucks ***. I want somebody to make a big quad with a manual shift. Why they think everything has to be automatic I haven't understood. 10 years ago nobody would buy a polaris because of that same reason.

A buddy got a new Vinson with clutchless manual. He really likes it. Have you ridden one of them?
