589s are far from a mud tire. But they are a good all round tire for sure. What size are the 589s on your friends?. If you looked at the pics on my little camera there, thats nothing. I do ride in real mud. Gators are an ok mud tire IMO, but i get stuck... no GC. And I drag the rear end every where i go. But for an old solid rear end it goes good enough. Its heavy because its made of real steel. Not like the new bikes, all light metal and plastic. I got some pics of it in real mud if you prefer. Like ???

This,

This,

or This.

Nice pics, you should of seen the mud I went through with my Praire 650 when I got my outlaws on the first day with my new rims. I went in fine but going out was a different story...lol. Its a run off that turns into swamp after spring. Its very soft, well it wasn't gooey soft until my P650 tore it up going in. Anyways, I'm driving in and I get to the point where it just turns into deep swamp, so I slow down to turn around and down I go. Buried it. So I pull out the winch and winch out. Get turned around and hammer it back through the mud hole I just got stuck in. I get on high ground, pick my spot and I thought I would go slow like I did coming in, big mistake. I thought I could power my way through so I floored it with the locker pulled. I moved maybe a foot and went down even further. I whipped out the winch, the cable is tangled.....crappy. I whip out the tow rope, walk to a tree and hook it the winch. I start to suck my winch in, I floor it, I'm moving, I'm happy, I stop moving....wth? The winch stopped working. Now I thought I would have to walk back to get a tow. I decided to think about the situation and tried the winch again and it worked. I think I over heated it or something. So I winch, stall it, winch stall it, etc till I am out. I got on high ground again pull in the winch cable, gathered my rope. I jump on the quad, pull the locker, point it to fresh ground and floor it all the way out not stopping. I made it out of that hell hole. I probably dragged my quad through the mud for a good 30 feet with the winch. Walking through the mud, it had no bottom so even if I had IRS it would of just sunk further.

That was my first mud ride with my P650 with my outlaws and new rims. I spent about 1 hour cleaning it and it now looks like new. I had some great fun that night.

i derno i rode with him today i derno if it the driver or the tires i have mudlites on my 400 scrambler and he has got 589 titans, and today just every mud hole that was have way bad i just had to stop and hook the tow chain to him, which i have to say today i had to put it in 4wd threw all the mudholes today b/c it rained hard yesterday

for not actually driving it it seems kind of wrong for you to bash. I at least wait until I drive my buddy's polaris before i bash it!!

my friend has a 99 300 4x4, in super-low 4th gear 4x4, it would have enough power to spin the tires from a stop, up to 20mph, and i only got stuck once, because the tires would stay afloat and the water was 6ft deep. this machine is stock with 25" 589's. it doesnt have any acceleration (especially in high gear), but it can hold its own, and is very fun. and i swear those arctic-cats in 10 years will have PTO's and be used as small tractors

VOODOO's got mudddd!! Hey listen savage21...you can go ahead and be unimpressed with THAT 454 on 1 or 2 rides, but you need to ride with some serious AC mud-masters before you come here and spout! We get stuck like the rest, but that's because we are pushing the limits. I have a Scram and it doesn't hold a candle to my AC 500 in the mud.

The 454 doesn't have as much power as the 500 of that day. Its close in speed (very close, maybe 1mph difference), but the torque shows a little. They are extremely close though. You can mainly tell it rock crawling, because the 454 will take a little more throttle.

Best way we noticed the difference between my cousin's 98 454 and my old 99 500 was putting both in 4th gear and taking off from a standstill. The 500 would pull out better. Still, the 454 was no slouch on power. Give it a better carb design and in its day, I would still take it over the 450 Hondas they made in 98. More power, better suspension, better 4wd system, and a better setup in my opinion with the heavy racks and floorboards.

I own a 98 Arctic Cat 454 and to say that it was outmudded by a scrambler is absurd. Show me some pictures of you going through this great mudhole and then some pictures of the arctic cat stuck and then I will believe you. A friend of mine has a polaris 300 xplorer and it seemed everytime we went riding he got stuck. At that time he had brand new tires and my stock nearly bald tires would outperform his anyday. He would not even try to go where I could easily go. And if I am not mistaken the scrambler has about the same ground clearance as the xplorer. And if this arctic cat got stuck in the mud and you went right through in 2wd I will kiss your *** on main street anytime anywhere.
And we dont even want to talk about reliability.

98 AC 454 4x4 highlifter lift kit and 26" gators on back
25" gators on front.
