We have an '03 400 4x4 and an '03 300 4x4 (both manuals) and we've found the
brake light doesn't come on unless the handle is really squeezed. If you press the
foot brake, just lightly, it comes on though. We haven't seen the problem you are
describing.

The fix to this is easy,,,take off the bake lever and drill a small hole in the lever section that pushes the contact that turns off the brake light. It is a small push button, then put a small rounded screw into the drilled hole, have the screw big enough to grab some bite. You may have to file flat the head of the screw a bit if it is to big,,I used a grinder.I did both machines in 15 mins,so it is not a big job.Hope this helps,,,also you can pump the brakes to get the lever back to full extension.

I fixed this problem the same way "roys" did. Simple, easy solution

i don't have a cat, or this problem for that matter, but i can tell you that a brake light is a normally open switch, when you push in your brake contact is made and this closes the switch (circuit) allowing current to pass. does this happen with only the front brake lever or is the foot lever also doing this? if just the handle, then you need to adjust it to get the play out of it so the brake light circuit is not closed.
