i got my quad back from the dealer again, and they too say that nothing is wrong with it. when the 4 wheeler is in 2 wd and the back tires are spinning and the quad starts to hop (you know what i mean) there is a sound that is coming from somewhere, it is not exactly like a crunching sound but is sounds like when you pick up a metal tool box and shake it!! Arctic Cat has given me assurance that if something breaks they will fix it so i am not too worried but i was wondering if this is maybe normal. so if you have some time and you think about it could you check it out and see if yours does it too. Find a really steep hill that you know the quad will not climb, back up to it and let it rip in 2wd, the back tires will spin and it will start to hop, and i hope that it will make a loud sound. I think it has something to do with the transfer caser because in 4wd it doesn't make the noise. Thanks!

yes that is very normal,,DO NOT DO IT!!!! You will tear your shaft in half. It is designed to flex..Note the according cover where the front drive shaft meets the motor. Whatever you do do not let this happen for a long peroid of time. When i take down my ring gear in my front diff. after the blots holding the diff in place are removed im able to pretty much move the diff a few inches in all direction, pinion gear in place and attached. becasue the shaft will flex back and forth. that is what you are hearing!!! be very careful and keep the bike on all 4s

hope this help CAT

I have a 2002 500i and the rear end makes a noise when you turn real sharp to the right. It does not make the sound when you go straight. But sure sounds bad when you turn. I checked the rear end fluid did not see any metal in it. The dealer I brought it from are jerks made a big mistake there but do like the machine.

Darn, I havent logged in in so long I forgot my password and what I was going to say.
I remember now, I know some people with the 02 models that first came out sayed the drive shaft was rubbing on the middle of the inside of the rim. Doesn't sound like the first guys problem but might be the guys with the sound when he turns right.

Sounds very much like a problem I had with my 03 500 snapping noise while turning sharp and even louder if going uphill while turning or backing up while turning sharp. In my case it was the outside CV joint on the front right axle. Replaced it and every thing is ok.
